via Imgflip Meme Generator Page 80 of the I have the power thread. It's a restaurant ban, I'm pretty sure private citizens in California can still buy plastic straws. As to the why, it's because a video of a veterinarian pulling a bloody plastic straw out of a sick sea turtle's nose went viral. I like sea turtles, and plastic pollution in the ocean is a huge problem, but plastic straws make up less than 1% of 1% of the plastic trash in the ocean. Pieces of damaged fishing nets is a large percentage of ocean plastic, but you cannot really ban plastic fishing nets without costing the fishing industries a lubricious amount of money. A ban on plastic fishing nets in United States coastal waters would be hard to enforce. Such a ban would be impossible in international waters. At age sixteen, Dutch high school student Boyan Slat created a science project for a cost effective way to clean up plastic in the ocean. Now the Ocean Cleanup Project believes they can clean up 90% of the plastic in the ocean in a few decades using a variation of his design. At sixteen, Boyan Slat has done more good than most people could accomplish in a 1000 lifetimes. But which teenager became Time Magazine's Person of the Year, a girl who became a meme. How dare you Time Magazine!
Thanks. You and the Scaly one ( @Scalenex ) Both left bread crumbs. I had forgotten that a profile page can be used to sift through someone’s recent ramblings. Looks like he is (smugly?) letting 30,000 sit there awhile. Maybe the 40,000 Post Level should “earn” a Forum moniker having to do with Space Marines.
The Critical Drinker recommends 1917. That's all I need to know.it. I will not watch the review until afterwards because he is a bit spoiler-prone, but generally speaking, if the Critical Drinker likes it, I like it. If he dislikes it, I dislike it. I like having critical filters I can trust.
So I was watching Ghost in the Darkness at a Summer Camp with the rest of the staff. Our staff was also taking care of a kitten at the time. It was dark, we were at the climax of the movie and someone burst in to the room and asked where the cat went. Everyone bust out laughing.

The Ocean Cleanup Project has completed it's first successful proof of concept voyage. A relatively small amount of plastic, but they proved that the process works. This has awakened my idealism for environmental causes. I sort had an environmental nihilism of "Whatever we do won't be enough," but this is the start of a lasting solution to a large problem.
