So this came up on the Seraphon facebook group, the new battletome was revealed at LVO, unfortuneately without a date. But also a new Seraphon terrain piece! Here's the announcement from the Warhammer Community Page. https://www.warhammer-community.com...from-lvogw-homepage-post-1fw-homepage-post-1/
We are amply discussing it in the "New rumor" thread, but it's not a bad idea to have a dedicated thread… It may be our only (for now) new model, but that piece of terrain is great, even if not particularly original
i think someone at GW is addicted to huffing fine cast and the only reason they wont just replace it is so they can go to the production floor and indulge
@Killer Angel, I agree about the terrain. I know this minor, but I really dig the cover art. Maaayybe, GW will "Make Saurus Great Again"?
Sorry, I hadn't noticed, because there have been new rumour threads for like two years now and a consistent lack of information. I was already pretty 'Dooooooom' so I didn't think hanging out in the rumour threads was gonna do much for my sanity. And 'new rumours' were so prevalent on facebook the mods had to post a sticky about unsourced gossip. Speaking of Dooooooom, I'm happy we're getting the thing, and the terrain looks snazzy, but I'm not convinced it will make us any more competitive as a faction. GW has a very specific pattern of behaviour I don't expect them to deviate from. I expect the things we have that are good, Thunderquake, Starstrike, Summoning, to get massive nerfs, and the things that are bad will receive no changes except for minor points reductions. I expect the new terrain piece to be our new summoner, which could be cool if it frees up Slann to actually cast spells. But considering how hard Summoning is probably going to cop it, there's no guaruntee it'll see any play. The cover art is beautiful. It actually makes me wanna buy a physical copy of the book instead of just pirating it. But there's so much potential to be let down. I've been hurt before, I don't know if I can stand to hope.
The base of the temple looks good: it got steps, it got vines, it got glyphs. Now I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth but the top part is ruefully dull. The pillars/conduits looks like some sort half-hearted attempt of a kit bash from a standard (attached). The rest of the device/engine is fine but the overall look it's negated by the thin, wobbly looking pillars. Compared to previous releases from GW this just looks rushed. Let's hope for fun rules with good, strong internal/external balance that feels on par with the lore.
Not impressed not gonna lie. For starters the top part of the pyramid literally gives me kitbash vibes. Seconders I thought we were gonna get Endless Spells WTF. Third that rumour engine we were all hyped for turned out to be this: I just hope the battletome is worth it, yall...
So this is only the first reveal, there could be more. Since they were focused on high elves they probably didnt want to go into much detail about Seraphon. Personally I hate terrain as a concept. I don't want to have to fork out for a static piece of terrain that is bigger than all my models. Now I have to lug it around if I want to use it. Also cant agree enough with people, its pretty dull. The top piece looks like it was kitbashed from endless spells. Imagine they had done this but with a slann on top and it was a new general with all that energy flowing around it, now that would be cool. But no, we got a rock XD
They have to put those banners in there, to tie it together with everything else. I don't care about originality on a terrain piece. What does interest me is how huge that thing is! ------------------- If they update Saurus they will have to update, Saurus knights + saurus guard. More likely I think, is that they might introduce new Saurus warriors, with far improved stats, at the same time dropping saurus knights and guard. I don't think they will introduce a ton of new models if they do. But an update like they did to chaos warrirors might happen. Maybe we will get a new start collecting box, based around skink. 20 skinks, 3 ripperdactyls and a steggadon would be great!
Agreed, but sometimes less isn't more. They could've gone the extra mile to make something fitting but still"epic". I'm thinking the pillars from Dominion of Sigmar and jazz them up with lizard-glyphs if the scale is right might look more solid. I haven't played AoS for a good two/three years. How big impact does these army specific scenery pieces have on game play?
