So i want to start painting my saurus warriors from the start collecting box, and I have a few paint scheme ideas floating around. I want the opinion of the community on a good base and layer to achieve a solid scheme.

So for the saurus I wanted to do maybe a light skink blue with purple scales, and was wondering what purple you feel would look good, Xereus or Genestealer? What should I base coat before the purple and skink blue, and can I get away with a chaos black prime? Another idea I had was maybe blue saurus with orange war paint scales.

I was going to get a skink starpriest as well and do a dark purple skink with black and orange feathers if that is a good idea?

I just started my painting journey, so doubtful I can pull it off to look nice, but worth a shot.

If you want a light blue like skinks prime with a light colour other wise you’ll have 10 coat of paint on before you cover the black primer!!

Do you already have the paint colors you mentioned? or are you asking prior to buying?

@Egres is right about priming. Bright colors will look dull over black primer.

If you already have the paints buy some craft sticks. These are craft sticks:

Grab one and prime one end White and the other end Black. Let that dry and then do test stripes across the stick, of the colors you mentioned.

A bag of those will only be $2-3 or so. The wide ones like in the picture are pretty decent as painting stands for 3 to 4 figures.

I like the idea of the light blue Saurus with the orange tipped scales and bumps. Particularly if you shadow him first with a really dark blue. (So that the cracks between the scales are usually an indigo/midnite blue.)

Dark purple, Black, and Orange. (?) I would discard that idea.

Again, a craft stick makes a great place to put the colors next to each other and find out what they look like once they’ve dried.

Thank you both! I do not have all of the paints so mostly just asking for some opinions before I buy some paints. I have Kantor blue and Temple Guard blue, but no orange, and not sure which orange i want to go with. I will do the craft stick method with the primer as I'm sure the wife has a bag kicking around somewhere.
