Alright nothing to do but paint and theory craft lists (and play DOOM...) in this particular time, thinking about running a list with Generic Slann and the Big Kroak himself, anyone else building similar lists and if you use any endless spells what do you use? Me personally so far Balewind is great (in Starborne of course) and the Bound Purple sun has done me some wonders in the little games I've used it, backed with Stellar Tempest we have some great horde killers now, considering trying Quicksilver Swords for MWs on single wound targets but yeah. Havent found a place where Cogs fit yet
geminids easily the best endless spell out there. giving 2-3 units a big debuff like that can be crippling
Balewind for Kroak (+ Astrolith) is a must in my book. Bound Purple Sun seems great too - Zero risk of it eating your own units and it is great against stuff with multiple wounds/DPR like big units of Hearthguard Berzerkers or even Ardboyz. Bound Geminids is also incredible too. In general I think you will see plently of Bound Endless Spells in competitive play. Many of the Endless Spells are costed based on the risk of the Endless Spell being thrown back at you. By only paying 10 pts. extra you eliminate this risk, which really makes them a steal. There is also a tactic where you field loads of the predatory Endless Spells with big bases to restrict the movement of your opponent. You could funnel the enemy army so he wont get as big of a surface area against your models, or even use them to block off objectives. Obviously some armies can just dispell them, but some of them got a rather high casting value (Purple Sun 8+) which means most armies will have trouble dispelling them, or they might simply use up all their own casts to dispell your stuff.
Yes, yes I have Allegiance: Seraphon - Constellation: Starborne Leaders: Skink Starseer (140) - General - Command Trait: Master of Star Rituals - Spell: Celestial harmony Skink Oracle on Troglodon (260) - Artefact: Sacred Stegadon Helm - Spell: Tide of Serpents Slann Starmaster (260) - Spell: Celestial Equilibrium Lord Kroak (320) - Spell: Stellar Tempest Saurus Astrolith Bearer (140) Battleline: 10 x Saurus Guard (200) 5 x Saurus Guard (100) 5 x Saurus Guard (100) Units 12 x Salamander Hunting Pack (240) Endless Spells / Terrain / CPs: Balewind Vortex (40) Bound Geminids of Uhl-Gysh (70) Bound Aethervoid Pendulum (60) Bound Purple Sun of Shyish (60) Total: 1990 / 2000 Extra Command Points: 0 Allies: 0 / 400 Wounds: 93 Trog is a bit of a weight. But, I love the model. Would probably drop it to bring 12x Salamander Hunting Packs.
I have some questions regarding Endless Spells. 1) Can a Unit move through an Endless Spell? 2) If so, is that Unit affected by the Spell? If the answer to 1) is no, we can set up a wall of Endless Spells.
no they act as walls only flyers can go over them. and yes tzeench blocking has been a long time strategy with endless spells
Like @Erta Wanderer said, they are blocking. Anyone can still move within 3" of them, as they are technically unaligned, but no part of a base my cross over (unless the unit's models can fly) or end movement on their base.
I just read the faq and it stated: Page 96 – Bound Balewind Vortex, Summon Balewind Vortex Change the second sentence of rules text to: ‘Only Seraphon Wizards with a Wounds characteristic of 9 or less and that are not already on a Balewind Vortex can attempt to cast this spell.’ This implies that the Bound spells are completely different spells than the unbound spells. So two Purple Sun of Shyish anyone?
What this does confirm is that there is literally no reason to pick a bound Balewind over a normal one. I dont understand their logic here
I guess GW is keeping the Oracle from casting Balewind Vortex? As if the Oracle needed one more reason NOT to be included in an army.
You cast Balewind Vortex turn 1. Turn 2 comes around and your Slann/Kroak casts Drain Magic - You put the guy wholly within 6" of the Balewind Vortex and then remove it. You then recast the Balewind Vortex and place it within 1". This way you can shuffle Kroak etc. around and get extra range. There could be situations where you want to cast Drain Magic to remove enemy endless spells, but still have him sitting on the Balewind Vortex. Basically like this: https://imgur.com/a/oajFEKh
How does the balewind vortex and arcane vassal work? If I cast balewind though a skink wizard do I place the balewind 1" away from the wizard and then "teleport" my slann to the top? Does an astrolith bearer let me set it up 7" away from the skink wizard?
You can not cast an endless spell through arcane vassal. It is part of the Malign Sorcery designer commentary.
10" when you dispell a vortex it drops you within 6" still very expensive but some times you really need that 10" and you are taking the balewind any way
