As Lizard said it was early theorycrafting from when the book was new and young. You can read a warscroll and expect great things, but on the table it will perform vastly different. Terradons have amazing potential, but can also easily flop, so sometimes you might opt for the more consistent unit with less risk.

Coalesced has actually done quite decent at one of the TTS tournaments. Much better than I expected.

At its core I think Starborne in the new book plays significantly different than how Thunderquake was played in the old book. Sure, both were ranged, but it was different on the table imo.

Well the good news for me is that it appears almost every single unit is viable and there are many combinations at play that look to be effective. I do love playing with models I love the look of and it appears Terradons, Kroxigors, Skinks, Chameleon Skinks, Salamanders and all of the heroes are viable.

It also appears basically all of the Carnosaur, Saurus units and so forth are also viable, which to me is exciting. The appeal to Seraphon for me is that they can play in any way: aggressive melee, stand back and shoot, heavily magical, all big dinosaurs.

Now maybe all big dinos aren't as effective as Gristlegore or Beastclaw, and maybe our full on melee isn't as good as Ironjawz or Slaanesh, and maybe the ranged isn't as good as Cities of Sigmar, etc... but at least it's there all almost all ways to play seem somewhat viable or competitive to some degree or other.

Agreed. Our army certainly has the flexibility to adjust to the meta as it shifts. So long as we fair well with powercreep we should remain competitive for quite a while.

power creep is our real kryptonite... if they make us wait 5 years for another book while other factions get 2 and three in the same time period...I will be one unhappy camper.

All, but Eternity Warden. Poor guy.

@LizardWizard, do you participate in TTS games or events?

Nope. I only do in person events. I would consider playing a TTS invitational if i got an invite.

Nice looking list. It's a minor nitpick, but it should be the Firelance Temple-host. The points are the same, so it's not a big deal.

    Good luck!

Of course it is the Temple-host, you're right.

In the end it was Ironjawz, with Goddrakk. I will do a BatRep, but it will take a little.

    Kroak + 28 salamanders
    kroak + 32 salamanders

Guys, it's getting embarassing… a whole new battletome and this is what we are capable to bring at tournaments?

in the meantime, i have completed my BatRep.
Yeah, Kroak + salamanders, but at least there were only 4 of them… :p

Lord knows I've written about 12 lists myself. I want to make Kroxigors a workhorse units because I adore them. I'm trying all kinds of lists to figure out how to use them. I've also made Ripperdactyl lists, Terradon lists, Razordon lists, Stegadon lists, Saurus Lists, etc..

Unfotunately, yes. Kroak is just too good not to take him. I'd like the slann to be even more similar to it. And nothing compared in damage to salamanders. And we don't have enough survivability to fight in close combat. Big dinos and saurus are good for friendly games, semi-competitive and such, but not for tournaments.

At least, salamanders-only lists are not as good as thought they are.

eh, but this will take us to a single possible outcome. Nerf / points increases. Probably both.

But that's how AoS works. Same for Tzeentch - just LoC, horrors and flamers. I just hope they won't make salamanders unplayable at all.

I think Starborne is all around better than Coalesced if you have a strong pilot bc it can react very well to board situations.

That being said I'd much rather play against Starborne with my alternate army (mawtribes). The Coalesced -1 damage really hard counters a few armies.

The lists only had 3-4 more than you? Doesnt seem that excessive to me. I predict every serious Starborne list fielding at least 6 every time. I get 18 is a bit silly, but 2 units isnt that uncommon or absurd and I wouldnt call it “salamander spam”.
