Yeah this and de law of numbers

When 10000 different people read the rules they may come up with more if just 10 people read them, also never forget there is a large Part of the community who WANT exploits, so they search them

Always assume your users will misunderstand, misuse and break everything. GW should hire some good software testers who go and stress the rules to their breaking point. Would probably help a lot :p

I dont think so, this would cost a bunch of money, so their products would cost more, also there would still be a lot of people searching for abuses, just Look at online games, they got play testers for balancing and still no results^^

A good tester should at the very least find the inconsistent & badly phrased rules as well as some of the more obvious balance issue. Shouldn't even be that much more expensive, 1 or 2 dedicated FTE is probably already plenty.
Doesn't mean they'l catch all balance issues, but it should definitly be an improvement.

As for the mess that is online games. A big part of the problem there is the design philosophy and the way "balance" is viewed. The most obvious example of this is LoL where the only metrics that matter are win & pick-rate. Which are treated as sacred numbers and where they nerf something that does too much damage by changing something completly unrelated which does impact the winrate, but does nothing to adress the actual problem. And obviously any problem that isn't reflected in the win or pick-rate doesn't get fixed for ages, cuz it's "balanced". Not to mention that for Riot it's less important if stuff is balanced and more important if it draws in the views and "engagement" and thus sells skins and e-sport tickets. O and of course their stance on the fact that the fun of the OP player matters more than the frustration of their opponent doesn't help either.

All of those issues hold to a greater or lesser extend for most online multiplayer games, especially the big popular ones usually run by companies with far more interest in trying to make all the money than they have in making an actually good game :p

And don't get me wrong, balance is complicated, and you're probably never going to get rid of all abuses some will always slip through the cracks, but it can be done a lot better.

yup, I'm just very good at complaining about it at the same time :p Especially when the things I complain about are easy enough to avoid with house-rules/modding etc. E.g. inconsistently written rules are annoying as hell and will make me complain, but it's easy enough to avoid them ruining the actual game :p

It is so crazy to me that they print this physical booklet with points for half the armies and the other half will have digital points. Like.. Why is there even a physical booklet in the first place? It only brings confusion. Like facebook groups have been filled with tons of posts about "oh we got no point changes!?" because nobody reads the warhammer community articles (where it was specifcally stated armies from CoS and forward are in digital format/FAQ).

Just make that stuff entirely digital already.

By printing a book they set everybody to only expect paint changed once a year. If it was digital only there would be a lot more pressure to change things constantly from the community. That's my theory at least.

To be honest it surprises me how early they send it of to print given that everything after the CoS release Will have its points updates seperatly. CoS was over half a year ago. I mean I understand our changes not making it in, we're only a couplet months old. But how was there not enough time for say tzeentch or the ogers to be included? Do they start printing Them half a year in advance? Cuz that seems a bit early. Its also not like point values need a lot of typesetting, or translating. This would be the one aspect of the books were big changes should be possible even shortly before print.

So why is there such a large chunk that they know Will have changes het somehow didn't make it into the actual book

Yeah the GHB20 was done back near the end of 2019, i.e half a year ago, because things are shipped overseas to be printed (I believe it is done in Asia) due to significantly lower costs (imagine the amount of physical books they do, it is a lot). I dont get why the FAQ didnt release at the same time as the GHB20 was released. There is absolutely no way the FAQ/point updates for us etc. havent been done ages ago. It would have been beautiful if all the things were released at the same time.

I dont see how this is related to money. By making the points digital you are still getting the same product hence they can keep the current cost. This would reduce their own expenses if they didnt have to print the booklet? Seems like a win-win for all.

Makes me curious why it needs to be printed so early though. Half a year seems excessive, printing and shipping shouldnt take that long. And typesetting also shouldnt exactly take months, its not that big a book.

Almost all books are printed about 6 Months before release by GW and other manufacturers too, thats simple logistics they have stores World wide and the online Shop too, and when something is released it Hit the stores everywhere at the same time, Problem this time was Covid which Puts everything back a month or two
