Hi, I have played a few games using 30x skinks with priests, and they have performed okay. However, as my local meta (friends) is pretty battleline heavy I feel like I dont have enough battleline to have a chance at objectives, and the skinks feel very "gimmicky" to play and require a lot of support to be effective. Thats why I started thinking about a simpler list using warriors as tarpit units. My list consists of: Kroak Skink chief on Steg (with prime warbeast) Oldblood on Carno (fusil) Skink priest (for bastiladons/chief) Saurus guard x5 Warriors x20 Warriors x20 Salamanders x12 Bastiladon Bastiladon Opinions? I like how simple it is as I am a beginner to AOS and on paper at least it doesnt feel as "make it or brake it" as opposed to using skinks as battleline. My biggest concern with this is that the warriors dont have enough protection and get wiped too fast, and I dont know which version of stegadon I should take. I considered adding a min unit of skinks for objectives but last time I did that they got one shotted 1st turn by a single long range spell (friend plays gitz with the wizard with insane range whatever its name is) so not gonna do that again. What do you think?
Welcome to Lustria The list looks solid. Any particular purpose for the Oldblood on Carnosaur? It is the only bloat I would consider to be part of the list. An Astrolith bearer and some endless spells would be a nice support for Lord Kroak.
Hey Salazar! Glad you found your way from reddit to here. I was the one that linked my list in your comments. I agree that the Carnosaur is cool, but not as effective as other options. If you want to stick with cool; more power to ya send in the t-rex and rip some faces off. If you're looking for a bit more competitive efficiency then yes, what LizardWizard said bring in an astrolith bearer and some endless spells (namely bound geminids and/or bound purple sun). A nice compromise would be to switch the Carnosaur for a Troglodon. Still big scary dino, but also helps Kroak by being an infinite range magical vector for Celestial Deliverance.
I don't think, that brining 2x20 saurus will give you much. Skinks with starpriest's buff will have same stats defence-wise 4+ save and 1 wound, but can attack both in shooting and in melee. Saurus are reliable on buffs even more, actually. They will lose bonus attacks as soon as they lose 5 models. +1 to-hit from carnosaur is nice, but won't help the situation much. I'd rather either go for saurus-heavy in koatl's claw or monster-heavy +skinks in thunderlizard. Warriors, knights and carnosaurs get +1 to-hit in koatl's claw, when they charge, which is huge. You can stack it with carno's CA for +2 to-hit and scar-vet's command for bonus hits. As for thunderlizard, I prefere capitalizing on bastiladons shooting. Their threat range is huge. I tend to throw 40 skinks with a priest as my body presense. The main problem is morale, so try to always concerve a CP for it.
The Skinks will only have the 4+ save if the Priest's prayer goes off. And it won't even have the chance to go up vs alphastrike list. I also like Skinks, but Saurus are more durable on their own.
I think, saurus won't stand a chance against alpha-strike either. At least, skinks are cheap enought to sacrifice.
