I'm fairly new to the hobby, with only about 8 games under my belt, and the biggest game I've played is 1500 points, the rest have been 800-500. I've got an escalation league coming up in 2 weeks, where we start at 500 pts, and move up 250pts each week. I have grown more and more infuriated as my friend with an OBR army continually pummels me right into the undergrowth of lustria. So let me begin by saying that I really need two things in this list, A list that can beat Ossiarch Bone Reapers A descent list for 500 Pts. I've been currently trialing this list of 500 pts against a OBR army weekly : Starborne/Fangs of Sotek 1x Skink Priest 70pts 1x Skink Star Seer 140pts 2x 10 Skinks W/Bolt Spitters + Shields 2x 10 Skinks W/Bolt Spitters + Shields + Bound Emerald Lifeswarm 50pts. +Bound Suffocating Gravetide 20Pts Now the list is ok, and if I can get the mortals with both the buffs from the priest and star seer, I feel like I'm doing ok but time and time again Ossiarch Bone reapers just seem to either shrug the mortals, or bring guys straight back next turn with the artifact. I've really only experimented with skinks thus far based on Caleb Hastings videos, so I was wondering if there was something that was tough enough in under 500pts to stand up to the likes of OBR. (I'd totally be happy to change my list completely and go full saurus, but I wasn't sure where to start.) Dude, OBR are like my Kryptonite right now. Would love the help my lizard brothers, lend me your Knowledge!
honest bit of advice? 500 point games suck. you either dominate or get dominated based on matchups and over all competitiveness of the league. ask yourself these 2 questions: 1) how competitive is this league? 2) how competitive do I want to be in this league? if the answer is Very competitive to both, then this is the list you bring: Kroak 320 10x skinks 60 10x skinks 60 BVW 40 Gravetide 20 your opponent will cry, as you nuke everything in turn one and two and then use the other turns to collect objectives. play this as starborne to bring in extra units as needed. just start with the hero, as most 500 point armies only bring one, then use your skinks to screen and unleash celestial deliverance on the battlelines, again most armies only bring one or two
Skinks dont really do any damage until you start getting 30-40 in a unit supported with +1 hit from Skink Priest, preferably rerolling 1s to hit too (Volley Fire CP or Hand of Glory spell) and the Skink Starpriest venomstaff buff ontop. The issue here is that you kind of need a certain amount of points for this combination of units and playing just 500 puts a serious limit to what you can field. Right now your list doesn't really have any teeth at all though. You need to ask yourself - What is gonna kill models in your list? OBR is strong, but they suffer a lot to ranged attacks, especially Mortek Guard since they dont get to reroll saves vs shooting, only melee. I dont know what your friend is fielding in a 500 pts OBR army, but 40 Skinks with the buffs mentioned above removes about 15 Mortek Guard per turn. Save a CP and you get to do it when they charge your guys too. I think I would play something like this in 500 pts. games - Maybe even swap the 10 Skinks for a CP unless you play with 2 battleline in 500 pts games. I think Ultimatley, because everyone else at the shop seems to be taking it pretty seriously. I also feel that this might be a good opportunity to actually have some form of strategy to win games. My friend with the Ossiarch Bone Reapers is 100% min maxing his whole army, and that's just a gut feeling. He continually runs petrifex elite and seems to be pretty up to date on the Meta at the moment. So I thought this might be a good idea to actually try and beat him for once. the only problem is that I don't have a lord Kroak Model! does anyone use any proxies or different models as substitutes? ( I already use 3d printed proxies for my salamanders and the guys that I play with are cool with it)
Yeah I get what you mean, that's why I thought I'd ask if there were any other alternative lists? Are saurus any good at this points range? Just willing to real learn how seraphon function "As an Army" Skink's seem like a bit of a catch all with the buffs they can get. I also like the look of Lord Kroak in an army, he seems really cool!
Saurus lists can be "good" at this level, but they wont be competitive based on what you have already said about the level of competitiveness of your meta. and in your first match against OBR they wont scratch those Morteks… you will be walking into a very unfun game
