I was patrolling the Warlord Games website to have a look at some Celtic miniatures when I stumbled upon the emergence of a new fantasy game they're doing: Essentially the upcoming fantasy version of Beyond the Gates of Antares like KoW vs Warpath, Warhammer Fantasy/AoS vs 40K e.t.c, Warlords of Erehwon seems most similar to the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game in terms of the scale of forces and gameplay, with armies consisting of 'warbands' of 5-10 models along with heroes, monsters and other stuff, although it features an activation system more common in skirmish games like Gangs of Rome and In Her Majesty's Name, i.e. each player taking turns to activate a unit. Here's a list of the initial races in the game: Interesting to see Gnolls appear as a faction - as far as I can see that's the first time they've appeared in any game system that is larger in scale than RPGs and Skirmish games, so good to see them appear, along with the Olympians - looking forward to seeing the miniatures for those appear. Expect Hoplites aplenty with Greek heroes, monsters and gods supporting them! So far they've released Orc and Skeleton warbands as part of their initial release, and the Skeletons look very much like the Ray Harryhausen ones from the old Jason and the Argonauts film, making them great potential enemies for the Olympians: Even though I'm a lot more occupied with Warhammer of all stripes and Middle Earth at the moment, I'm interested to see how this develops.
You’re welcome - I thought because Beyond the Gates of Antares has become pretty popular with wargamers, Erehwon, which has the same rules in a fantasy setting, could well become similarly successful. If the minis have good sculpts and the factions have good lore behind them, it could end up rivalling AoS, KoW and Warhammer Fantasy in the not-so-distant future. I’ll certainly continue to monitor this game and see if they come up with any especially good stuff.
Found a new expansion for this game that is branching out into a "new world" direction called Mythic Americas. Factions are supposedly going to be: Tribal Nations Aztecs Incas Mayas Here are two units of the Aztecs, the Tlalocan Bound Dead and the Jaguar Warriors. https://www.warlordgames.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/722211002-Tlalocan-Bound-Dead-1.jpg I like how the Jaguar Warriors look, but am very curious how their Mayans are going to turn out
I like this game idea, especially the fact that the factions will be purely different native tribes in this universe. I’m surprised they’ve put these into their own separate universe rather than adding them to the plethora of existing Erehwon factions as they did with Samurai, but otherwise I like the direction in which this is going, with different native troop units and creatures associated with their myths. I’m surprised though that you missed this Coatl model: Cut the spider legs off and it would look great in a Lizardman army!
O wow... That definitely confuses me. Those legs make no sense what so ever. And ruin an otherwise gorgeous sculpt. Grrr, Imrahil
You could cut them off and greenstuff over the cavities pretty easily to make a Coatl proper. No problem there
Yeah this sculpt didn't appeal to me as much as the straight up human Aztec warriors did (and the possibility of some plastic Mayans in the near future). I prefer the one I made myself a long while back, or the ones by @KobreRex HERE and especially the one by @Galen HERE. @Sudsinabucket also made a pretty epic one too. I agree its probably the legs... but that would be an easy fix.
