I have caught the flu and was not really able to anything else, but lie in bed and suffer. However, today I was able to power through those yellow beasts, that my son forced upon me. After going through those, I decided to hide the yellow paints from my box of colors. The coverage of those colors is just terrible and with the modelled skin of the Bastiladon, I cannot even really cheat with washes, as they are immediately all over the place and it is impossible to get any sort of shade into skin. At least for me and my level of painting... Those pics here are of course still WIP as I am uncertain, which color to do the huge crystal in? Any suggestions? Otherwise I will ask my son. I will probably add some patter in orange to the wings, once everything is dried. At least the yellow looks pretty nice here.
They look great so far. As for the crystal... Honestly, the silvery white you're using as a placeholder looks good, like a white quartz. You could paint it up with more white, blues and purples if you want. Or, I think a deep purple crystal could look cool and plays off of the yellow gold. Or, I also think green as @Imrahil suggested would pair well with the blue & yellow colors.
I would personally use a quartz crystal point to replace the plastic. A real one. Just google it. I'm aware it would have a price tag though.
Even though the idea is intriguing I cannot do that. My personal taste would force me to paint over it anyways and that would be a shame. I have decided to give green a try. Should look decent!
Here are some WIP pics from the Taurosaurs. Again color choices, I would have never gone for, but they do work well! Both of them will get Ice Blue scales every now and than as a highlight and last of the 3 colors, that my son chose for them. Next steps are details like horns etc. and oil washes for the green and orange skins to work out the shadows a little more, afterwards a little drybrush for the scales and the blue highlights. Than I can add the Howdaws. What do you guys think? Which one looks better? I personally prefer the green purple one. That is a color scheme, that I could even imagine for an entire army... After the Taurosaurs are done, I will get to work on some Saurian Warriors. I am considering using one color scheme for units instead for models at the moment to slightly tone down the color effect, but than again, my son loves to do it and so far, I am quite happy with the stuff, outside the yellow, that is just a pain in the ass...
The first of the two is in a state I will call done for now. I will revisit it later, when I will do all the base rims. I still have to devide how to make those, but I will probably go for either a brown, black or some sort of sandstone...
Nice work on both of them. The singled out blue scales give him some character. They almost look like gems Grrr, Imrahil
