New player looking to build decent starting army before moving into the higher points.

Like the idea of an army focusing on buffs. So far I have 2 builds. Looking for feedback, advice, any help at all is really appreciated!

    Allegiance: Seraphon
    - Constellation: Koatl's Claw

    Leaders
    Skink Starseer (140)
    - General
    - Command Trait: Nimble
    - Spell: Hand of Glory
    Saurus Sunblood (130)
    - Artefact: Eviscerating Blade
    Saurus Astrolith Bearer (140)
    Skink Starpriest (120)
    - Spell: Hand of Glory

    Battalions

    10 x Saurus Knights (200)
    - Lances
    10 x Saurus Warriors (90)
    - Spears
    10 x Saurus Warriors (90)
    - Spears
    10 x Saurus Warriors (90)
    - Spears

    1000 points

Or swap out the Sunblood and 1 of the Warrior units for a Scar Vet on Carnosaur:

    Allegiance: Seraphon
    - Constellation: Koatl's Claw

    Leaders
    Skink Starseer (140)
    - General
    - Command Trait: Nimble
    - Spell: Hand of Glory
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (210)
    - War Spear
    - Artefact: Eviscerating Blade
    Saurus Astrolith Bearer (140)
    Skink Starpriest (120)
    - Spell: Hand of Glory

    Battalions

    10 x Saurus Knights (200)
    - Lances
    10 x Saurus Warriors (90)
    - Spears
    10 x Saurus Warriors (90)
    - Spears

    990 points

I just don't know which would work better. And is lacking shooting attacks going to be a huge disadvantage?
Again any tips or advice on what to change is always appreciated!

Starpriest and knights is always a good combo.
Personally im team carnosaur all of the way, especially having scar vet as the general and having the artefact.
This allows you to hand out all out attack and explosing 6’s to the knights. On average you will get both of those for only 1 CP with the faction command trait on the scar veteran.

the astrolith is a bit of waste really at 1000 points as hes just buffing the starpriest and starseer.
I think you would be better off having another unit of warriors and an extra command point instead

Okay. So after shuffling things around how about this:

    Allegiance: Seraphon -
    Constellation: Koatl's Claw

    Leaders
Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (210) - General - Command Trait: Dominant Predator - War Spear - Artefact: Eviscerating Blade
Skink Starseer (140) - Spell: Hand of Glory
Skink Starpriest (120) - Spell: Hand of Glory

    10 x Saurus Knights (200) - Lances
    10 x Saurus Knights (200) - Lances
    10 x Saurus Warriors (90) - Clubs

Dropped the Sunblood, dropped the Astroloth Bearer, added more Knights.

Are Knights generally the go to or would Warriors be better? I know the knights have more attacks but the Warriors have Rend

generally yes as they are faster and have more attacks than a minimum unit of warriors. a full unit is harder to use and you would want spears if that was the case.
the knights are more likely to get the charge due to their speed and do more damage with their weapons on the charge.

New seraphon player here but I can tell that 10 save 4+ bodies on an objectif is not enough to hold it. so maybe a unit of 20 skinks instead of the warriors as they won't have the horde bonus and that give you something to do during the shooting phase. only my guess

Yeah generally 20 skinks would serve better, or personally i would just take 2 x 10 to either sit on home objectives or as a good screen to protect the knights for a charge.
