Last two samurai cavalrymen are complete, bringing me up to twelve of them over the past two months: Need to do the matte wash for all these guys still, will probably do that when I go back and flock all the bases for the minis I have completed over the past two months. Also am well under way on my cannons and crew, here are the bases: Naturally since heraldry (and mons) are one of the biggest reason I like this project, I couldn't shy away from painting up some snazzy pavises (pavise?) for my cannon crews to cower behind:
My samurai cannons are complete!! Ukita Clan: Shimazu Clan: Tokugawa Clan: Ii Clan: All four! Will certainly make more of them at some point. This mini-project brings me just over 300 models painted for the year, only a few more samurai to go! Neglected to answer this before; you are correct the models I used are European cannons (cheap $4 set of two from Wizkids). I had enough spare parts lying around to convert crews so I went with the cheaper option I think they are close enough to serve my purpose, and if I make more cannons I can use them as pirate cannons too.
Your attention to detail, and the effort that you put into the heraldry really take this army up two notches. Love it!
A few more samurai from the painting table complete, to include eight Shimazu archers with magnetized bases: Also completed that Samurai "command unit" with the two headbearers, a bannerman, and a samurai:
Had to pack up my game room temporarily to make update/repairs to my game table, so I went ahead and took a picture of all the samurai currently on my complete shelf! The majority of these (at least 3/4) were all completed during the last two months! Spoiler: high-res Still looking forward to taking a big pic with all of them together when I get this next batch done.
Four more food samurai finished, from the Honda clan: The blue banner is really channeling an "Arasaka" vibe Also completed my Shimazu Toyohisa hero model (originally from a Test of Honour box set I got for cheap on an ebay bid): Cheers, and an early Merry Christmas!
Been playing No Man's Sky over the past few days, but this morning I cranked out four more Shimazu samurai: All four are built for magnetized bases, just like my Shimazu archers I did not long ago. This will give me a third clan I can use in Test of Honour should I want to (along with the Ukita and the Ii clans). I especially enjoyed how this dude turned out:
Eight more samurai complete for 2020! Ukita and the Otani clans, they look great with the rest complete: I got one more samurai daimyo to complete tonight, and that will do it for the year!
One more samurai for the force, daimyo Kuroda Nagamasa (one of Tokugawa Ieyasu's top generals): I am calling the model itself done, but I think I may go back to it at some point. Horse is too chalky, and I am unhappy with parts of him such as the horo cloak. But he was a tough one to paint so he is going on pause for now. Spoiler That brings me up to 347 models painted this year! Time to start planning for next year, hopefully to get even more work done.
