Hello boys and girls and welcome to Let's Get Motivated - New Year's hobby resolution 2021

I have been some of you putting out your hobby resolution for 2021.

This thread is too get us motivated this year into finishing the projects that we have commited to in our resolution, the rules are fairly simple.

At the start of the year post what your hobby resolution, it can be models/terrain/conversions of any game type. No pressure if you don't finish anything this is for motivation nothing else.

Around the middle of the year post your progress, no images please, if you have want to share your progress with images, upload them into your blog and supply a link.

Around the end of the year post your progress, again no images, if you have finished a piece upload the images into your blog and supply a link.

The reason I don't want images in this thread is too get everyone that takes part views in their personal blog where the community can critique, etc.

You don't have a paint blog? well get one started in this forum section.

If you need advice etc. post here and the community will try and answer.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone share their progress

Dream goals for the year:

• Finish painting my 2k 8th edition list. (Temple Guard, Skink Priest, 2 Salamanders and herders, Saurus Cowboy).
• Paint up enough units to get both my Clone and Droid armies to 800pts for Star Wars Legion.

 

I'm determined to paint a 1,000 point Seraphon army this year. Here's my progress on purchased models as of today:

Finished
- 12 Saurus Warriors (90 points)
- 3 Kroxigors (140)

In progress
- 10 Saurus Knights (200)
- Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur (230)

Not started
- 10 Skinks (60)
- 20 Saurus Warriors (180)
- 3 Terradon Riders (90)
- Bastiladon with Solar Engine (220)
- Skink Starpriest (120)

My ultimate goal is to have a 2,000 point painted army, but anything above 1,000 this year is just gravy.

Bonus goal: if my friend's Blood Bowl league gets off the ground (and if it's safe to meet in groups), I'd like to paint a team. Not sure which team to paint but leaning towards Orcs. Suggestions are welcome!

 

I think that I'll set a goal of painting my Beasts of Nurgle unit...

I haven't painted any models since I was a kid, it was kind of sucky and I was REALLY bad at painting. So much so that I gave up on ever painting.

But I guess at least in ayear I can get paints and stuff and then give an effort to assembling and painting these guys.

My own hobby resolution for 2021, is not really said out loud, but it contains the following:

- finish painting my Orruk Warclan models. This includes: Ironjawz SCB, Ironskull's warband, Orruk Megaboss.
- finish painting my first Scenery piece
- finish building my modular Scenery building

I think this is all I have got time for in the upcoming year. I'd like to be wrong though and get to do more hobbying.

I am extremely tempted to join in on this... but do I want my inevitable failure in a year's time documented publically?

My painting rate is inversely proportional to my posting rate... and I post a lot!

 

You post a lot? I hadn't noticed...

Just take something small and stick to it I think. That's what I'm trying with the Beasts of Nurgle.

 

Okay, I'm going to take the plunge and jump on board. May the Chaos gods have mercy on my soul.


My 2021 Hobby New Year's Resolution is to have 1000pts of my Chaos Dwarfs army painted by end of year. I currently have a painted hellcannon (210 points), so that leaves me with 790 points to paint. I'm leaving it completely open as to what part of the army I will focus on (characters, core, special, rare). Points totals will be calculated with whatever kit/equipment/build I am most likely to field. Applicable unit fillers are fair game and will be counted as the number of models they will replace in the unit.

NIGHTBRINGER's 1000 point Chaos Dwarf challenge!

Current standing = 210/1000 points = 21% (a nice head start)

 

I look forward to seeing if a fully-fledged Dark Lord of the Sith can prove himself in such a challenge!

Just to make things more interesting, I’m going to embark on a similar challenge - I’m going to see if I can build, paint and base 1000 points of Beastmen before the year is out! You’re at a slight head start at this stage as you have 210 points completed and under your belt, while I have not yet started assembling the contents of my SC box, but I’m arguably more productive in my hobby content, so it’s all to play for!

Hopefully I can work on more stuff this year, I think I’ll push and go for 2000 points of seraphon I’ll have to check I think I may have up to 390 points partially painted!! Or maybe warcry warband?!?

Umm I’ll be happy either way so let’s say 2000 points of something hahahah.

 

Why not throw my hat into the ring.

Hopefully i can get atleast full 1 army (2000pts) worth of seraphon painted, not sure what list but KC or a saurus heavy DT. If i can get that ill be very happy. Additional maybe get a full 15-20 infinity models so i can a full list. I've already started both so im being a bit checky but its still alot of models and its a big year.

KC: 880/2000 (44%) but i need to do more of the hard stuff, kroak,chameleon skinks, 15 more SK, SG and endless spells.
Infinity: 3/20 (15%) I can proxy these assuming they are the right base size so i have no idea which army ill field them as.

 

This is true! There is a much greater chance that you'll hit the mark.

Hopefully we'll both reach our targets!

Shhhh... let's not make too much of this, lest we attract the attention of the grandmaster speed painting champion @Lord-Marcus !! Who would undoubtedly show us both up by painting a million points worth by early to mid march!

Not going to happen. potentially. Things have progressed in life to a point where I have focused on other things lately.

 

Time for some half year update:

- finish painting my Orruk Warclan models. This includes: Ironjawz SCB, Ironskull's warband, Orruk Megaboss.
* This goal stagnated a bit. I did finish my Ironskull's warband. For the SCB there are still two Gor-Gruntas to do and the Megaboss as well.
- finish painting my first Scenery piece
- finish building my modular Scenery building
* I haven't yet picked this one up again, but am thinking about how to proceed. I like where I am going with it, but since it doesn't have playable interior it might not see as many tabletop time.(Because me only be able to, and loving to, play MESBG at the moment).

I have done a lot more of hobby-stuff in the past half year, mostly MESBG and I love that I can play it again, once in a while. This makes for great motivation to paint and build more stuff that will be used in game at some point.

Half year update:

• Baring any serahpon 3.0 core book in the next 6 months or any other radical changes. Im 1570/2000 painted on a KC army that i could run today. Just kroak needs painted and other units bought and painted for spicing up lists.
• I have a 13 infinity model which should be enough for an army but im behind on what id want to run so i guess 13/20 models for MO army. 10 of which are mid paint but its end of June so im probably gonna manage the full 20.

 

Half way update:

• Finish painting my 2k 8th edition list. Still need to paint a unit of Temple Guard, a Saurus Cowboy and another Salamander Hunting pack.
• Paint up enough units to get both my Clone and Droid armies to 800pts for Star Wars Legion. - This is nearly done, 2 models to paint to get there.

Good progress on the Star Wars front, less so on the Lizardmen side.

 

Another half year update:

940 points completed towards my minimum-1,000 point goal, which I should easily attain by the end of the year. I'm going to take a quick break from lizards and work on some Blood Bowl Orcs next.

 

Wow, you guys have all done so well. Kudos for all the great work and productivity!

Sadly that is not the case for me. At the start of the year, I setup my 1000 point end-of-year Chaos Dwarf challenge. I went in with a painted hellcannon (210 pts), with the goal pushing that up to 1000 points total. Currently I sit at an abysmal 354 points, for a net gain of only 144 points painted and 646 to go. Things aren't looking too good for your old pal NIGHTBRINGER.

This is what I have painted this year:

Hobgoblins 3x3 Gnoblar unit filler (45pts)
Infernal Guard Musician (22pts)
Infernal Guard Standard Bearer (22pts)
Fireborn #1 (55pts)

I'm currently working on a Magma Cannon.


On the plus side, I am extremely pleased with how the few models I've painted have turned out. So that is a small positive. And the year is not done yet!
