I personally think Tomb Kings are on the same level of good-guy-ness as Lizardmen and Wood Elves - all three want to defend their kingdoms from anyone who'd despoil them and ensure that order is preserved. The Tomb Kings couldn't help being undead, that was Nagash's fault and he was an arseling. As it happens the legend known as Alcadizaar the Conqueror (with the help of some random Skaven) managed to ruin his entire career in return so an eye for an eye. Lizardmen I can understand as being put into Order because of the Slann carrying out the will of the Old Ones, but I don't really know why GW made Tomb Kings neutral and Wood Elves good, because both of them have some awesome leaders and some nasty ones - both of them should be one or the other really. In fact I'd say Tomb Kings should be moved to Order and Ogres to Destruction because the latter eat everyone, which can't really be viewed in any way as nice. That's eliminate the additional complication of adding neutral allies and streamline the game a bit.

That can't be pleasant, I wish you luck - there really are some pirates out there.

If they did that, I think it would be completely contrary to what they want to achieve. Since GW first announced it, I've always seen TOW as being intended to appeal to two specific playerbases that their current range doesn't yet attract:
    1. Those players who started Fantasy in the Good Old Days and were repulsed from GW when the transition to AoS came round and have never come back, continuing to play their favourite edition of Fantasy at home and with mates in defiance
    2. Those people who have fallen in love with the Warhammer Fantasy world through Warhammer: Total War and were annoyed when they first went to GW and found that Warhammer Fantasy no longer existed as a game.
If GW did decide to mess with it too much, I think it would be an extremely stupid move, as that would completely repel Target Audience 1 and may well upset the more learned of Target Audience 2 who have spent a lot of time reading Fantasy lore.

Indeed they've already made a stupid move with this obsession with making new models for TOW through Forge World, as that will put off a substantial quantity of Target Audience 2 (and some of Target Audience 1 for that matter) who either don't want to or can't afford to pay Forge World's crazy prices for kits that don't even have much customisation to them. Messing with the factions too much I think would thus be another especially large nail in the coffin, if not THE last nail in the coffin, as considerable quantities of Target Audiences 1 and 2 would both be put off completely and TOW would just not be worth developing because of the costs outweighing revenue from those few people who do want to play.

I'd be on board with that completely. I too have often complained at GW's obsession with profit over playability and favouring the powergamer over the thematic player. If it was a perfect world where money didn't matter, I would love creating a new version of Warhammer Fantasy that dropped the Horde rule off a cliff, made Cannons less broken, introduced new factions that fit with lore while keeping existing ones going, made all armies Middle Tier, and released every single unit type that wasn't already in plastic in plastic. That would be god-tier. However, today's world is the world of the Ferengi - honour doesn't seem to matter in the eyes of many, only profit. If we launched an insurrection at GW HQ and took it over according to our plans, we'd probably die out at some point because we didn't sell enough Stormcast and Primaris Space Marines.

"WHO CARES?" We'd say, "At least we died with honour."

But that doesn't change the fact that our company would still be dead, which'd suck, and we'd have to quote Marvin the Martian:

    Hear hear!

Woah, woah, woah. The Ogre Kingdoms are just misunderstood. They're really quite nice once you get to know them. I mean yes, sometimes they will attack and eat the people that just finished hiring them, but deep down they're really good people. ;) (they are, with Daemons of Khorne, the other army I am steadily collecting)

It is, and I can't stress this enough, completely brutal. If I liked the army just a little bit less, I would have given up long ago.

    Agreed. Completely.

"Come back with your shield or on it" I'd say. ;)

But I think you underestimate the power of the fanbase and utilizing the forums. If you did a proper job, collected a couple of hard-core gamers who knew the game inside and out, did proper alpha and beta testing, I think you could create something magnificent that would be financially viable. In fact I think it would be extremely profitable.

    However...

This would require a lot of work and dedication. A good simile would be the Peter Jackson movies. He put a LOT of work into ensuring that they remained as true to the books as possible. The movies were VERY expensive. But also VERY successful.

I think a game devised like that would be the same. The initial start-ups and overheads would be large. But the profit would be intense, I believe.

Agreed. Perhaps we should form a squad and start our own community-led 9th Edition that does what 9th Age failed to do...

There was a thread that I put up somewhere on the Fantasy part of the forum (here) that'll help to start us off

That looks like 6th Edition because the units are 4 models wide rather than 5, and because that was the last edition in which GW-made Chaos Dwarfs had rules.

It still mystifies me as to why Chaos Dwarfs were never as well-supported as the other factions - even their 4th Ed book was a White Dwarf exclusive.

My personal effort to ensure the Tomb Kings never die, took a while to get this together but when I laid it out like this it was definitely worth it (not my painting).

It's enough Ushabti to do a proper horde formation

With no magic items, it's just over 9K points. It's pretty much my pride and joy.

That is a LOT of chariots though. So many chariots. My goblin wolf rider army needs that many chariots. I must go acquire more.
