I absolutely think that he'll become stronger just on his own, but won't be able to take as many synergistic buffs. No more Balewind is almost a given, so only 4 spells per turn instead of 5. I can see them removing his ward save because he's no longer "dead," but I'm not sure about that. I imagine he'll rival Teclis in terms of casting, but probably won't have as many automatic buffs and debuffs. He's the single most complained-about unit in our book, so some balancing tweaks are sure to happen. But some of the god models are worth taking (Teclis, Archaon, Morathi), so let's hope he still fits into this category. Save one for me!! Well, we already know how good of a job GW can do with Saurus after seeing the Bloodbowl and Underworlds sculpts. I have to imagine that updated Warriors aren't out of the picture for the future. I won't lie, I'll be kind of sad for my 80 Warriors if that happens, though! Kroxigors just need to copy the Total War model at least for the most part. The "croc" is in the name, so just make them look the part! Yeah, not sure if they were already planning this when the new book came out. I personally think they started to realize how popular Seraphon really are after giving them a good rulebook so that newer players would actually feel like it was worth starting the army. So my personal bet would be that they made this new sculpt after the release of our new battletome. I'm guessing that his spells like Celestial Deliverance will get a bit of a nerf in the damage department, but his casting strength will go up (like Teclis) and he'll probably get some new utility spells or abilities. And see above for the Balewind opinion. I'm in the same boat! I haven't even started painting Skinks yet! (still waiting on GW's shipment weirdness) I certainly won't be able to do a model like this justice... This is what I'm thinking. Big points hike, but he'll be much more powerful on his own. I do think, however, that he'll be *slightly* less effective than he his now with his full entourage. But if you have to find a way to nerf a combo, removing the combo but making the main unit better on it's own is a pretty decent way to do it. I doubt we'll get an entire new book. LRL only got one because GW had like another 2/3 of their army to release. I doubt we'll be seeing any entirely new units aside from a re-worked Kroak. However, this does indeed show that GW has finally realized that we're in need of model updates. And given our current popularity, if the new Kroak is a great seller (and I'm almost certain he will be, especially if his warscroll is good), I do think this signals the possibility of more model refreshes down the line. Same here, 100%. I only got a few games in with the old battletome. And while it wasn't bad to play, the hard truth was that our only real option to compete was to flood the board in summoned Skinks faster than the opponent could kill them. I really like our extremely wide variety for listbuilding options that are actually good right now. So I think a new book so soon after the old one couldn't be anything but a pretty big nerf. Exactly. However, most of the new stuff that's been released alongside the big models has been just that, entirely new units with new models. We have yet to see a large range refresh for old armies that transitioned to AoS. However, GW seems to be doing just that with the Vampire Counts... I mean Soulblight Gravelords. So who knows? They might be running out of steam for entirely new army ideas and are looking to refresh older ones at long last...
That is indeed a thing. The Eidolon of Mathlann is on a 100mm round base. Teclis is on a 160mm base, to give you an idea of scale.
Sorry @Putzfrau that was just me being kind of snarky. I don't REALLY think we'll get a new book, but it was a critique of the quick "re-release" of LRL and Slaanesh.
Haha in that case we are already a bit overdue! Imagine if they put us on that lrl timeline. Just nonstop new stuff.
We'll get another book eventually, but probably not til AoS 3.0 is at least several months to a year old, maybe more. That Battletome will probably come with a line refresh...
While unlikely, I do think it's possible for a Broken Realm Kroak book to come out. They hinted at an alliance with Morathi-Khaine and that Kroak is making a direct intervention. Yes, we're in BR Be'lakor, but if you told anyone here on Sunday we'd be getting a new Kroak the next day, you'd get laughed out the forum. It seems like a Kroak/MK alliance is a lot for a book about the return of the demon prince, and that GW said we'll learn about Kroak 'in a while' (he wont be available by the time we get our hands on BR Be'lakor) Again, possible, unlikely, but possible.
Thats a great point! Edit: I was just thinking... imagine if new kroak scroll is Allegiance locked. Coalesced would be kind of hilarious.
The thought of a Broken Realms Kroak has me slightly frantic. I need to paint now. Need to lets some paint fumes kill the optimism and wild speculation.
There are also rumours that we team up with Sylvaneth in the Alarielle book. So it will be interesting to see what they do.
I'd really hope they don't limit him to starborne. Coalesced already is already not particularly brilliant. Honestly if he gets more utility, a vaguely decent profile where he no longer needs the guard & losses some damage I'd be fine with that. The loss of damage might even be a good excuse to keep his point costs reasonably low. I'd be fine with that. Most of our models are fine-ish, we don't need an entire new line. I'm just hoping they'l do more than the one unit.
After spending all of yesterday struggling with Finecast and pinning my old Lord Kroak I'm pumped that they've got a new one out. I need him now, like right now immediately. Hell I'll buy two in the hopes that I can run one as a normal Slann.
In general, I agree with you, we finally get a centerpiece ala Nagash/Teclis. I think he'll have 12+W so he wont be able to use the Balewind Vortex, a shame, but in return his spells will have a longer reach. I also think that he'll lose the ability to generate CP as today but I disagree that Guard won't be able to protect him, as some of you say, because of the lore. Remember that, Inmortis Guard is able to protect Katakros or Nagash. I don't really think he gets Starborne keyword. He comes from the World That Was, so he is "tangible" as any Coalesced, unless for any unknown reason, the millenia he spent on the void made him Starborne, but at the same time, it doesnt make much sense he can have two different keywords in different games. For example, Katakross is always Mortis Praetorian, even if you don't have an Alliance.
