old does not = bad. bad=bad. and the old saurus are widely seen as bad or at the least far out shined by what GW is currently capable of
The cold ones with the leather saddles and ropes? Why would lizard need a saddle, their skin is tougher then Kevlar. Also where are they getting the saddles from? Do they take cows into space with them? I think that we want models like khorne blood letters. Fantastically easy to paint. Look awesome.
It's an easy comparison to make. This is a *beautifully* painted Saurus Warrior. Given a lot of love by a talented artist. And yet, it suffers through no fault of the painter's because it looks old and goofy. This is not the 7-ft tall hulking reptilian genetically engineered supersoldier of the Old Ones. Take these converted Blood Bowl Saurus Warriors and suddenly they *are* both beautiful and intimidating. The difference is astounding. One can only hope that the new Lord Kroak signals a Seraphon line refresh in the near year or 18 months. I think it does, but we'll have to see.
Ever painted a load of tzaangor or Kairic acolytes at once? Cuz I have. And those are annoying as hell due to the excessive amount of gemstones, leather straps, small metal bits & whatever else. All of which need to be painted carefully and individually. It's repetitive, tedious, error-prone & can't be done efficiently in batches at all. After the first handfull you'l reaaaaaaaaally start wishing they weren't as detailed, but there's another 40 left to paint
When I painted the old blood, I had a great time. I thought this a great model. those saurus were awful, the tiny eyes, painting the tiny gold bits, washing them over and over. the cold one riders lower half! With loads of details and very poor lines, it’s hard to even see what the parts of the saddle/foot pouch etc are suppose to be.
I'm not sorry when I say that saurus do not need a new model before the kroxigors. The saurus model doesn't look goofy. It's out of date yes but not bad.
I respectfully disagree. Those models are mono pose, but they look better to me. At least they are beefy.
My turn to respectfully disagree. I love the hell out of my Lumineth models. They *ooze* character and theme. Even Teclis, who I believe looks a lot better in person than online. The only thing is that the entire model line looks better in alternate colors.
I'm a big fan of the Elementari stuff too. Got a cow mountain waiting to be put together, and some Stoneguard who're getting the helmets modified to match the mountain. The Lumineth overall were a big adaptation of the old aesthetic into AoS, and they did very well keeping the old stuff in there.
I like AoS. I know they have to change it to make it marketable. They took 40k elements and stuck them in.
I dunno, I'm one of those weirdos who thinks the Stormcast, as a concept, are way more interesting than Space Marines lol Certainly they're an untapped goldmine of potential. The psychological effects of being kidnapped by a god to serve as his eternal supersoldier and die again and again and again and again must be horrific. Hellish, even, for some. And I think Age of Sigmar in general is doing better in the lore department right now. Compare Broken Realms to Psychic Awakening. What are the ultimate results of Psychic Awakening? On the grand scale, not much. Even as a Necron player, what can I say? The Silent King revealed himself, built the Pariah Nexus...and nothing happened. 40k's problem is that every time some interesting war happens with a chance to change anything, everyone punches up, nobody wins, and GW ends the story with "and the war goes on to this day" and tells the players to resolve it on their tables. Whereas in Age of Sigmar, we actually have winners and world changing events. I like it better, currently.
