Hi new Seraphon friends! I have been mostly a painter/collector for a while but I am hoping to get some games in now with 3.0 and a renewed desire to hang out with people. I might work up my way to proper competitive someday, but for the most part, I just want to be able to use the things I have and make something that will be functional and cohesive and not just drop dead and fail spectacularly.

What interests me most are the big monsters, carnosaurs, bastilidons and the like, and it seems like thunder lizards is what I would be looking at. I also love the new Kroak model and I hope to make some list that can use Kroak and big guys maybe. My overall goal: I am going to list everything I have, can you talented lizardfriends help me build a couple of 2k lists to try with local friends? Also, could anyone suggest some next steps as to things to get and try that would go well with it?

    What I have currently:
1 Lord Kroak (the new big awesome one)
2 Carnosaurs (one built as an oldblood/scar vet, one unbuilt)
    2 Bastilidons with Solar Engines
    2 Skink Starpriests
    1 Skink Priest
    1 Saurus Oldblood on Foot
    6 Terradon Riders
60ish Skinks (mostly blowguns and shields)
    15 Saurus Knights with Lances
    24 Saurus with spears/shields

Are there any decent 2k lists I can make out of this to learn the game and do alright? Also, what should I buy next? (My eyes have been set on some stegadons because I like big monsters, but there might be other better options)

I haven't played any games of aos 3 yet so this is all theorycraft, but here's what I'd recommend starting with based in what you have, especially if you don't mind some proxies

Thunder Lizard, but it might be better as koatls claw since you have more saurus and the carnosaurs

    Kroak
Astrolith bearer (proxy with oldblood on foot)
    Scar vet on carnosaur
    Skink oracle on Troglodon
5 saurus guard (proxy with saurus warriors)
    1 Bastiladon
    Priest
    Starpriest
    10 saurus knights
    5 saurus knights

You kind of have 3 "groups" here that synergize together. Kroak, AB, guard, and trog are one, the bastiladon and the priest work well together, and the Scar vet, starpriest, and saurus knights combo together.

I think if you want a steg go for it, Skink Chief on steg hits very hard. They did go up quite a bit of points but may still be very good. They are monster heroes now so lots of options with the new rules. I'd prob just remove the troglodon for the steg chief if you go that route. Or you could pick up a couple salamanders and go for a starborne list. Currently the majority of your collection is leaning toward the coalesced side, but it's a bit split between monsters and thunder lizard or saurus and KC

Awesome, thank you so much! I guess I am glad that I haven't built all those skinks yet (I think I only have about 24 so far paitned. I thought masses of skinks was generally a good thing? maybe it still is but just doesn't work well with what I have going on so far.

If I wanted to go for a proper Thunder Lizards list, other than the Skink Chief, what else would you suggest I pick up?

No worries! So skinks are certainly very good, however they tend to be better in Fangs of Sotek and you mentioned you think you would like the playstyle of TL with kroak and big dinos so I went with that. Skinks lost some ground in the new edition I think being reduced to 30 in unit size, less buff stacking, and a cap of 5+ for armor saves, but should certainly still be good and you could run a unit of 30 in your TL list with the priest and starpriest.

As far as next things to get, I think you already have a good set up to be honest. If you got the steg kit you could potentially magnetize it to use it as either a Skink Chief or an engine of the Gods. It's possible you'd want a couple regular stegadons for a thunder lizard list as well but not necessarily required. I would say play with what you have and see if you feel you want to go a certain direction
