Howdy, I'm a new AoS player roped in by @LizardWizard into the glorious realm of the lizards. I'm building my army and wanted to know what ppl think about how to build out my skinks. For reference I have little firsthand knowledge of the rules, though I will be correcting this when the rulebooks for 3.0 become available. Point is, my first list is going to be the big bois and skinks. Currently I'm planning to take 2 stegadons, Oldblood/Scar Vet on Carno (haven't decided on which), Oracle on Troglodon, Kroak, and skinks. Using the warscroll in the skink box javelins with shields look like a great option for wearing down enemies at range and having a better shot if getting wrapped up in melee than if you run blowpipes. Any tips for a newly hatched Saurus looking to lead his army in service of the Old One's Great Plan? I'd appreciate it.
Historically, it was always boltspitters and shields, but I will be trying to have 30 man blobs with spitters and clubs. The shields lost a lot of their utility with them giving +1 and not stacking with Priest ability, All out defense, etc. When you get your skinks into combat, they will do more mortal and and wounds due to hitting probably on 3+ rerolling 1. For purely screening 10 mans I will stick with shields.
I have to agree with you on that. I really have had my best luck either kiting them in Fangs, or throwing them as hard and fast as I can to remove whatever I can before they can get punched back.
