Lies! There has never been a female lead in a sci-fi franchise until Star Trek Discovery and Captain Marvel.

Even if there was a Star Trek show with a female captain, it certainly did not run concurrently with another Star Trek with a black captain who was also a single father.

Oh yeah... I'm surprised I forgot about him as he was my favourite character in DS9.

I've listened to Clownfish TV in the background. They suspected some half-ass rewrites to make the second half more palatable to old school fans but it was too little too late.

The probably is not that Kevin Smith and his cohorts applied a woke filter to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. It is that he lied about it. He sold this series as a love letter to old school fans.

The weird thing is, Kevin Smith made a name for himself as a nerdy old school fanboy upset at corporate interests messing with his childhood IPs.

There was a low budget Masters of the Universe computer CGI that released fairly recently. "Hey, we are taking some liberties with the IP, it is not going to resemble the He-Man you are used to." and it got an okay reception. Not a great reception, but some people liked it, no one hated it because they delivered what they promised.

If Kevin Smith said "we are doing a feminist reimagining of Masters of the Universe, no one would be mad. A lot of people just wouldn't watch it, but they wouldn't be pissing and moaning about it.

Like High Guardian Spice. It's very woke but it's an original IP and it was sold as woke. No one was mad at it. It has a few fans. The question is, are there enough fans to keep it going. It's borderline. The show got less viewership than expected, but not drastically less viewership than expected. But no one is screaming that the creators need to be fired and as far as I know, no one is hate-quitting the streaming service.

Woke shows are okay if they use original IP. Some people have argued that it is impossible to be pro-police and woke at the same time, but Brooklyn 99 is a very progressive show and it has a wide fan base across the political spectrum.

I quit Neflix over Cuties (and gradual lack of interest in their shows). I was starting to come around because Netflix was consistently refusing to censor things on either side of the spectrum (and I like Dave Chapelle), but this Masters of the Universe debacle has chased me away. I don't want to subscribe to Neflix in a month where they will think the algorythm of new subscribers was helped by this.

That said, even if rejoin Netflix, one month, maybe two months is plenty of time to watch everything I want to watch, get bored with the selection and unsubscribe. That is my strategy with most streaming services. 12 month memberships are for suckers.

I like Young Justice as much as Nightbringer likes the Star Wars prequels so I'm sticking with HBO max as long as they are pumping out new YJ shows.

I thought you loved Young Justice... a more apt comparison might be my love of the original trilogy.

Netflix gave me Castlevania (my favourite show of recent times), so they are forgiven for the Cuties debacle.

That's fair enough. I won't watch it, but it won't elicit any anger.

This is entirely the point for me.

Don't change something that people enjoyed the original of to something else. Just make something NEW. I personally believe this to be the fundamental problem with woke culture. I have zero disagreement if someone wants to do something woke. Just tell me what it is and then I can decide if I want to watch it. I'm painfully aware of the fact that my own likes and dislikes are not mirrored with EVERYONE ELSE. I believe that I suffer from the condition of being "human" and "an individual".

I liked the first 5 or 6 seasons of Brooklyn 99. It had a gay police captain as a main character. He was great and the show took up some woke concepts and I enjoyed watching it (not necessarily because of the woke points, but overall I thought they brought them in without bludgeoning people over the head with the concepts). They messed it up after this and I stopped watching, but I thought was good until then.

That would require some effort, and 19 times on 20 it seems too much.

Yes, I think @Scalenex somehow you’ve mixed up me and @NIGHTBRINGER , which I find strange given a fair amount of time we sit on opposite sides of the preference spectrum :D

I am not concerned that the CCP is going to take over the world and usher in a 1984-esque dystopia with Chinese characteristics.

The CCP is going to collapse under their own weight within a hundred years. Maybe ten years, maybe ninety years, but they will not a viable political entity in 2121.

Their demographic issues, their systemic corruption, environmental degradation, and tofu dreg infrastructure means they do not have the means to take over the world.

They do have an attitude "If I can't have it, no one can!"

Once the CCP realizes their plan to take over the world will not work, their leaders will then try to set fire to the world, either figuratively or literally.

Assuming Western Civilization "collapses" and the CCP is not able to destroy the world, I think the world will go back to a system where there are zero global super powers, only regional powers. Which has it's own pros and cons.

I don't know if you are familiar with American FM radio. Every FM radio station brags about having the most variety, but basically they will play the same 12 songs all day.

So rap stations will play the most popular 12 rap songs and every 13th or 14th song they'll play something obscure.

Country stations will play the 12 most popular country songs and once in a while play something obscure. Modern pop stations do the same thing. 80s pop stations do the same thing. Same with hard rock stations, same with soft rock stations, same with oldies stations.

But the DJ all brag about having the most variety. Why?

Well if you ask an average person what they want on the radio, they will tell you that they want variety but if you watch a person select radio station, they are biased towards listening to their favorite 12 songs over and over again with the illusion of variety.

If you ask an average American woman what she is looking for in a boyfriend, she will describe a stereotypical nice guy but if you watch the men she will seek out stereotypical bad boys.

If you ask Nightbringer what his favorite Star Wars is, he say it's the OT. If you watch what memes Nighbringer posts and what quotes Nightbringer posts and what discussion he dives into, the lion's share of them are prequel trilogy with original trilogy trailing the Mandalorian which holds the 2nd place spot.

In fact, when Nightbringer posts something OT related, it is often comparing and contrasting with the prequel trilogy or the Clone Wars animated series (which is basically an extension of the prequel trilogy).

I've openly admitted that in terms of memes, the PT reigns supreme (especially episode III)...
    upload_2021-11-29_2-12-48.png
Ergo, it makes complete sense that most of my SW memes would be sourced from the PT. Furthermore, since a large number of my posts are joking/meme focused, a large number of my superficial Star Wars posts will be PT orientated. However, my more in-depth Star Wars content is usually more focused on the OT and the OT's supremacy over the the PT and ST (with several personally created threads and polls focusing on such).

Also consider my personality, I'm definitely not one to put forth a false stance in order to try to fit in with the crowd. I call it as I see it. If anyone disagrees with what I know to be true, I'm always happy to shred their argument politely discuss the issue ;). So if I state my preference for the OT, that's simply the way it is. The NIGHTBRINGER does not serve.

As far as the Mandalorian goes, it's new and current, so there is more to talk about. In the end though, my enjoyment of the Mandalorian is nearly 100% rooted in the its OT nostalgia and fan service. The story is extremely basic, but it makes me feel like I'm back in the OT in terms of setting and feel.

That said, I still really like the PT (outside of stupid things like Jar Jar, Anakin-Padme romance, etc.). The chart provided above does a pretty good job of detailing my feelings on the two Star Wars trilogy and the Disney trilogy.

What are you going to claim next, that I like AoS more than WFB?

The opposite of love is not hate. The opposite of love is indifference.

I find it interesting that there are a lot more things making fun of Jar Jar than the Disney sequel characters. Because the characters are not even worth making fun of.
