It does it on its own. GW has several technical paints across a range of colours that crackle like that (I'm sure several other paint companies have such paint ranges too). For Chaos Dwarfs you might be interested in Mordant Earth.

A neat trick to do is to paint a lava pattern on your base and then put the crackle paint over it. When it cracks, you'll see the lava underneath.

If you want larger cracks, I find that putting down a layer of PVA glue before the crackle paint helps!

Quick question: I have started a new MESBG Battle Companies Campaign with my brother. Would you like content about these game nights in this thread or shall I start a separate thread for that?

So I will deploy the adventures of our new MESBG Campaign over here.

    A little introduction
This campaign will set place in Middle Earth en is fought between me and my brother
My brother will use his new warband of Easterlings and I picked Minas Tirith. The goal of this campaign is to claim the other's home town as yours.

I called it the campaign: The Battle Between Men

The Battle Between Men - Part 1

The scenario we played was 'Hold the line'. Minas Tirith defended and the Easterlings needed to cross the board with at least two models to win.

    20211203_210945.jpg 20211203_210955.jpg 20211203_211742.jpg

During the second turn my brother sneaked two of his models down south splitting my forces.

    20211203_212536.jpg

Next he picked two to go north and holding my models in place for combat to eventually run behind him.

    20211203_214414.jpg

In the end the game was more about spending/preserving Might for heroic moves. The game was won for Minas Tirith by the roles of priority my brother got one model of the board.

    20211203_220356.jpg 20211203_220719.jpg 20211203_221528.jpg

The win(and amaount of kills) gained my leader the Heroic March ability (move up to 3" extra in your move phase)

Influence points were banked, so no reinforcements.

The Battle Between Men - part 2

Last friday we also played a second scenario.

One of the results of the first scenario was that my brother's hero became lost in battle. So the next scenario had to be 'A Daring Rescue'
His leader was kept hostage on the top off the pyramid. The only ways up or down were the stairs or straight walls.

    20211203_223558.jpg 20211203_223213.jpg

I tried to keep the openings between my Men to a minimum so that the hero could not get away easily. This scenario helpt us to get a quick understanding of the climb test mechanic
A hero of both of us had to make a Fate save bacause of falling damage

    20211203_230142.jpg 20211203_230501.jpg

In the end his leader made his last climb test with a 6 so he could continue sprinting away. This is what won him the game.

We took up reinforcements for the next time. Myself a Citadel Guard with spear and my brother an Easterling Kataphract.
    Back to the painting table.

    Love the map!

Also loving your battle set up. My next suggestion would be to make a dozen or so tiny scatter terrain pieces to fill up the blank space on the board. They don't need to be bigger than ~2 inches in base size at most, but they are great to tuck into corners or along edges on a large setup like this in order to fill up the blank space, add tiny spots of cover and concealment, etc.

The Battle Between Men - part 3

I had the pleasure to have another game night with my brother this month. A good moment to introduce my new terrain features: the river tiles.
My brother was as stoked about it as I am, so he implemented a lot of them on the board :D

The scenario we settled on was 'Recovery' in which 5 objective markers are placed on the centerline of the battlefield with suficient spacing inbetween. One of which was randomly assigned as the relic before placement (identified by a number on the bottom). The goal of the scenario is to find the relic and take it over the opponent's board edge

    20211222_203111.jpg 20211222_203121.jpg 20211222_204702.jpg 20211222_210101.jpg 20211222_214128.jpg 20211222_215356.jpg 20211222_221317.jpg 20211222_224941.jpg

I the end neither of us could claim the relic and move it to the other board edge due to tactical movement and rivers blocking the way. (Swim tests are pretty tough with heavy armor a shield and carrying a heavy object (relic))

My brother's warband was reduced to less than 25% so he could flee by choice and the scenario ended in a draw.

His warband lost and regained a warrior with pike and shield and his leader became a Scorcerer. My warband lost a warrior with bow and gained a Ranger of Gondor and one of my warriors upgraded to a Knight of Minas Tirith.

Next scenario will be played in the new year.

For the next scenario we need some horses, without riders, time to paint up two mounts of my Rivendell Knights:
