Yes I do, what a hype was that. In the same ballpark with: "don't pull a funny face when the clock strikes midnight, or your face will stay that way forever" Grrr, Imrahil
YES. YES, YES, YES. First movie AMAZING. Second a bit s**t, but hey, there's another so lets see. The third movie is the only movie I have ever walked out of a cinema MID the movie. I haven't seen the last one, but I shudder now that I have seen this meme.
I saw a review from Red Letter Media ("Half in the Bag") who said that it was bad, but almost bad in a good way... you'd have to watch the review. Basically the movie is so "meta" that it's plays like a jab at studio execs and fanboys who want to keep having sequels that just repeat the same thing over and over. But the movie might have some basis in Wachowski dealing with the death of several close family and friends. I don't know, I might watch it. But it's not top on my list.
I didn't mind Matrix 2 and 3. I didn't watch 4 because reviewers I trust said it was awful. I would like to defend Matrix 2 and 3. I think Matrix 2 was weaker than the original. I believe Matrix 3 was weaker than Matrix 2, but I still enjoyed Matrix 3. I even bought the DVDs for 2 and 3 (though I waited for them to be on sale). I think people had two high of expectations. Sequels rarely live up to the original, especially if the original was ground breaking and awesome. The only non-animated example I can think of where the sequel to a great movie held up to high expectations was The Empire Strikes Back. Maybe an honorable mention to the Back to the Future Trilogy, since it is so iconic for the era but those three movies were created in one production run. Matrix and Star Wars A New Hope were not expected to get a sequel. You are entitled to your opinion, I cannot imagine walking out of theater for Matrix 3. It would take a really bad movie for me to walk out of the theater. Battlefield Earth, I dodged a bullet there but I had a friend walk out of that and demand his money back. I did notice it on TV and watched it out of morbid curiosity but I couldn't make it longer than ten minutes. I really like Will Smith, so I thought the ending would save it so I sat through After Earth. In hindsight I wish I walked out of theater for that. The original Matrix was one of the most amazing movies ever made, the sequels, not so much. The sequels were okay. I like movies. I am satisfied with okay movies.
