I was not impressed with the Underworlds warband models this time. Being that it hasn't been mentioned, I imagine no one else is either?

because there are different kinds of gold.
Or do you really want me to believe that you would dismiss the old 40k necrons, mr. Nightbringer ? ;)

I mean, they look nice enough, but there's been too many death releases lately and they're not that special either.
Plus, they get released at the same time as some new nighthaunt stuff. So they just don't really get the spotlight in any meaningfull way.

Agreed, especially when compared to some of the truly interesting and great warbands that have been released over the years. This one felt very bland. Not terrible, but also not interesting in any meaningful way. Ultimately it is underwhelming.

    Indeed. Our numbers grow!

From a jewelry perspective, that simply comes down to what they alloy gold with and/or what they plate the gold with. But the most valuable, and only true gold is 24k pure gold... it's also the most expensive.

From a chemistry perspective, there is only one elemental gold. That said, it does have several isotopes, but only one is stable while the rest are radioactive.

So no, there is only one true gold, one true king, WFB! Bow down.

Actually, yes. I did dismiss them, I have sold my 40k collection including my Necrons!! The only two models I kept were the Nightbringer and the Deceiver C'tans. They will make fine Fireborn champion stand ins for my WFB Chaos Dwarfs!!!

But your 40k example fits my analogy perfectly. Nobody starts as a champion, you have to work your way up. The same was true for my hobby journey, which started with 40k. Back then, on my way up, I was happy to settle for a lesser "medal". Now that I've reached the apex though, it's nothing but the finest for me!

So yea, I was a dry "meh." Reaction with a shrugshoulders.gif attachment.

I love Mary Shelly's work, but they didn't go far enough with these.

The vampire doesn't register as a vampire. He registers as a saw movie class serial killer, with a twinge of hellraiser with the flesh crafted face.

I don't know which of the models is supposed to be his "mortal assistant" as all of the other models look like zombies with the paint jobs although the favored zombie seems to be the armored one because, well, armor.

All of the flesh-craft zombies again, didn't go far enough. They look like zombies with Tesla coils attached to thier spine and that's it.

There could have been an easy, camp style win here.

Vampire in a 18th/19th century style outfit, with fantasy crazy inventory vibe.

Standard Igor, with a Tesla coil with lightning on a spear to stand out.

3 fleshcraft zombies, with at least one in the classic arms forward stiff walking pose. This is a set it would make sense in.

Slam dunk. Instead we get this

Agreed, they should have gone with the necromantic horror vibe. They look amazing and would have been way better to go with this aesthetic:

He and the rest of the Norse team (apart from the Beer pigs, they're fine as they are) could have segments cut out from their legs to bring them down to Dwarf proportions - conversion opportunities abound!

    Hmm...

On one hand, it would line up with a piece of lore in Psychic Awakening: Pariah a couple of years back, where the Adeptus Mechanicus identified a Squat vessel:
It would be wonderful, fantastic and beautiful to see Squats return to 40K. 40K is going to stagnate unless they add new factions, and they brought Genestealer Cults back, so surely it's a possibility? Especially given the popularity of Kharadron who are pretty much AoS Squats?

    But...

Look at the date. This could all be a nasty April Fools' joke from GW taunting the Squat fans. If it is, I'll be calling out the BS that they're making a joke out of denying the Squats' return and wasting a phenomenal opportunity, especially after they brought back Genestealer Cults and turned Sisters of Battle from being a joke army to postergirls. Not to mention they had no qualms with introducing the double-headed travesty that is Imperial Knights and Chaos Knights that turned 40K into a 'Sod you, mine's bigger' mess.

It honestly seems a bit high effort for an april fools' joke.
Especially as there's no over the top claims, or any other silly business that are giveaways, like you usually see in these things when they're jokes.
If they were going to do this as a joke they would probably have focused on some of the goofy old models, not released a proper trailer like this.

Plus, squats are such a popular, nostalgic fanfavorite, that using them for a cheap joke seems reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally stupid marketing-wise. I mean, they have been discontinued what 30 years ago? Yet the internet still remembers them and wants em back? That's some great persistence...

At "worst" I'd expect them to only release squats as a kill-team or something equally minor, just to test the waters and see if people actually end up liking them before fully supporting them again.

it could easily be an april fools.
OR it could be serious and GW is puttin it today so we think it's a joke, but it's true, and that's the joke.

You'd have thought so - this looks and feels like a genuine release trailer, and I'm sure GW were more light-hearted in a lot of previous April Fools' videos.

If it is a joke, GW will have a lot of angry Squat fans on their hands because it would essentially be an insult to those who have devoted their existence to giving Squats a place in 40K in their own time, with fan-made rules, conversions e.t.c., and surely, as a company, GW realise that insulting your fanbase is not a good idea?

And as you say, the fact that Squats have retained a consistent cult status in 40K, like Sisters of Battle did for a long time when their models and rules were largely forgotten about, plus the popularity of their AoS cousin, the Kharadron (both as their AoS selves and as Squat conversions), shows that there is enough of a fanbase to make developing them as a new faction profitable.

Come on GW, I know you've been great at making balls-ups out of key opportunities for a long while, but you restored some of my faith in you with the Parasite of Mortrex. Do not fail me now!

I would only settle for a full-on faction, as they did with Genestealer Cults. Just having a Squat Kill-Team would make it look half-baked, as it did just including that Bounty Hunter for Necromunda. To convince me they really care, it's a full faction or nothing!

Or this could be the joke, as someone on Facebook wittily put it:

Also, given the standard GW sets for what is and isn't a joke with their James workshop commericals. This would just be extremely jarring.

A kill-team would be just a start, obviously the fans won't be pleased until it's a fullfleshed faction :p

But honestly, releasing this under the guise of a joke, alongside a MVP to test the waters, seems reasonable enough to start with.
