"New" models incoming. I managed to get this oldy goldy box set for cheap. It is the Dutch version, bit weird to read the rules and modelspecs in Dutch though. The models are build and somewhat painted. Time to strip or repair the paint. Grrr, Imrahil
First up are the warriors of Minas Tirith, the Scenery pieces and some Uruk-hai warriors. Grrr, Imrahil
The Battle Between Men - part 6 Last night was finally Game Night again. We started the night with a 'Lost in Battle' scenario. One of my brother's heroes was lost in battle due to the injury roll last time. Along with the hero 2 of his warriors were injured and had to sit the battle out. The Easterling company therefor was reduced to only 5 models. In order to make the game a little bit fair we played the rescue scenario with a stand in Mordor company with approximately the same point value. One Orc Hero, 3 Orcs with bow, 3 Orcs with a Two-Handed weapon, 2 Orcs with spear and 4 Orcs with shield. The Orcs were positioned in and around the camp and stayed stationary until the Easterling company was spotted (within 6" at the start of the Move phase). The Mordor forces Could react to and were able to pin the Kataphract down, with just one Orc in the first turn. With no shooting or battle damage the Mordor Orcs claimed next priority and trapped the Kataphract and killed the rider. And tag the two closest Easterling models without casualties. In the next couple of turns the rest of the Easterling company was held up in their place with 2 Orcs killed and 2 Orcs killed by friendly fire. My brother's company was wiped out in the end without even coming close to saving their lost hero. SO as a result the hero was presumed dead and removed from the company. My brother was able to gain an extra warrior due to a reinforcement roll. This was the first scenario of the night 2 more to come Grrr, Imrahil
The Battle Between Men - part 7 For our second game we played our custom scenario "Capture the Flag" Time to bring out my Minas Tirith company. The goal of the scenario is to take hold of the flag (positioned in the middle of the board) and keep it in your company for four consecutive turns, only counting turns in which a member of the company carries the flag from start till end. The 'neutral' flag is marked by a Mordor banner. Both armies start by moving onto the battlefield at the start of their first Move phase. Due to positioning of the river crossings my brother was able to reach the flag first, shielding it with his Kataphract. My two Knights came in but one of them was killed swiftly. Next turn my brother had priority and I had priority and managed to get in combat with his (now) banner bearer. My brother won that duel but wasn't able to do damage. I, instead, killed his Kataphract rider and one of his warriors. Next turn I got priority but my brother decided to Heroic Move to move first, to counter I declared Heroic Move as well and I won the roll-off. I charged the banner bearer again and tried to capture the still present horse of my brothers company (house rule), I failed in doing so. my archer hero became trapped and my two Rangers were out of targets for the third turn in a row My archer got killed and nothing further happened that turn. Next turn my brother got priority and we both declared Heroic Moves again, this time my brother won the roll-off. He pinned my knight and both warriors to prevent his banner bearer to end up in combat. My rangers still had no targets because he shielded his banner bearer with the combat between his sorcerer and my knight. No casualties this during combat phase. For the last turn we both had one point of might left on the table. I got priority and my brother declared Heroic move. I decided to hold my might point a bit longer. To give his banner bearer extra protection my brother used a warrior as pincushion for my rangers. They finally had a target to shoot. Only one arrow hit, but it hit the warrior in front not even wounding him. I did spent my last point of might to declare a Heroic combat with my knight, I sadly lost the combat and thus my brother had successfully carried the flag for four consecutive turns and claimed the victory. The aftermath of the battle gave me but a few things, I banked my Influence points for later and two of my heroes got a level up. Gaining Shoot for my Archer (he is hitting targets on 3+ now) and my leader gained an extra might point. My brother upgraded to warriors to gain the Black Dragon special stats. His archer gained a wound and his leader gained a Might point as well. He reinforced himself with a warrior with pike and shield. (he also got an injured warrior missing next battle) After this battle there was even time left to play a third one. We really had a vibe going, and so much joy in each others victories and losses Grrr, Imrahil
The Battle Between Men - part 8 For the last battle of the night we rolled quickly on the scenario table included in the Battle Companies expansion book. this resulted in the first scenario: "Seize Ground" scattered on the battlefield are 5 objectives (one in the exact center and both players may place 2 objectives in turns 12" away from any other objective and 8" from the edge of the table) Starting within 12" from the edge of the board 2 of the objectives were claimed pretty easily, the center one was be fought about. Closing in we both avoided to be directly seen by the other, therefore no charges were able to be made in the first two turns. In the second turn my brothers archer shot the horse of my leader, leaving him venerable for incoming troops. At this point I remembered that the criteria for claiming a objective was to be within 3" of it without enemy models within 3" as well. Therefore I had to move my archers back to get them in 3" of the objectives again. I declared Heroic Move with my leader and set up the combats in het middle of the table. My brother attacked my hero with spear at the bottom of the table. With my archer hero I was able to hit my brothers archer and I had to spent two might points to inflict a wound. He now having two wounds just took it and we moved on. My knight got trapped by three warriors, but due to his charge he managed to win the duel, knocking down two of them. Sadly no wounds were inflicted. next turn my brother moved first trapping my knight again and stopping my leader to free him. A ranger managed to assist my leader in killing the sorcerer. The rider got killed from atop his horse. The horse had the courage to stay on the battlefield. At this moment the beforehand set time expired and we concluded that I had won this scenario with 3 over 2 objectives claimed. I got one hero upgrade this time, my spear wielder gained the Burley special rule and I bought him an additional Two-Handed weapon (time to do some converting ) the 3 warriors I had to level up decided not to promote nor to become a hero I did reinforce my company with another Knight though. At the end of the evening the overall standings on the map did not change (the losing of the 'lost in battle' scenario did not effect the map) Grrr, Imrahil
Wow really fantastic work here all around. It is great to see the fruits of your labor come together to allow for such an awesome set of battles that you can play! Really like how you have incorporated all your terrain projects
Thank you kindly! It is a great feeling to be able to set up the entire battlefield with different terrain between two battles Grrr, Imrahil
When new models arrive, new models have to be build These are the first models I ever ordered from Forge World, but I like it very much. The resin is done way better than the GW resin kits I have had so far, way less supporting parts and so much detail. Great looking dudes. I assembled four of them already: two with sword and shield (because my brother has those in his warband already) one with pike for future upgrades and I had to convert an Archer (because somehow they forgot to include the possibility of Black Dragon Archers in the kit) The archer was quite an easy conversion. I cut both hands of a warrior with bow and glued them on the arms of one of the Black Dragon warriors. The one downside is: there is only one left arm without a shield in it to be used as a bow arm. And a comparison with a normal warrior with bow Grrr, Imrahil
Great stuff. The archer conversion totally works btw. It looks like he is reaching for an arrow from his quiver.
Painting some Gondor royalty. This model will function as a hero in my Battle Company (a hero with spear and shield got the upgrade to weild a two-handed weapon): He will also be a stand-in for Aragorn, King Elessar on foot, because I do not have the proper model: Grrr, Imrahil
Why don't you just use him as a Knight of the White Tower, as that's what the model is? Or doesn't the Battle Companies ruleset include rules for the Knight?
The Knight of the White tower is a hero model and Battle Companies lists only consist of Warrior models of whom some are able to receive the keyword hero. So this hero of my company started out as a Warrior with spear and shield, became a hero (gaining 1 Might, 1 Will and 1 Fate) and now got an upgrade to wield a two-handed weapon as well. Grrr, Imrahil
