Even the Drinker has something good to say about Andor:

Just watched his review. Still not enough to get me excited about the show. What did you think about Andor?

Still haven't seen it yet because my continued boycott of streaming services in all their forms means I'm waiting for a DVD if they ever make one, but with the confirmation that it clearly isn't woke and that they're not out to sabotage Cassian's character but improve it as I was hoping (plus more links with the Prequels including Phase II Clone Troopers), it makes me all the more excited to see it eventually.

I'm surprised to hear that you didn't make an exception for Andor... but I'm sure that it will eventually be released through physical formats. At least it is not likely to be spoiled for you as there honestly isn't much discussion surrounding it.

    Two questions:
    • When you say DVD, do you mean Blu-ray or 4k, or literally old school DVDs?
    • What do you have against streaming services in general? They are essentially modern day cable tv.

'Old-school' DVDs of course, though they should release Blu-Ray and 4K copies of Andor and other good media as well for those who have either of those, nobody who still follows the old ways should be excluded.

I'm concerned that they'll damage society as we know it by further increasing the shift toward minimising hardware. 'Netflix and chilling' has become the new norm, and if nothing is done to stop this then we will continue to slide down the slope of technological dependence. There's something innately tactile, and thus more human, when handling a DVD and putting it into the DVD player, same as with the VHS of yesteryear, while there is no such experience when just turning your TV on and flicking to the next series you want to watch on your streaming service. Similarly the fun experience of going to the cinema with friends and/or family to watch the latest blockbuster could disappear if nobody bothers to even leave their house when they can get the same film on their streaming service at home.

Secondly, it's all dependent on Wi-Fi - great if you've got good, consistent broadband strength, but not good at all if your router dies or your signal fluctuates between being good one minute and being rubbish the next. No need to worry about that with a DVD, of course, just turn on your DVD player, put it in and play!

Thirdly, if all content becomes streamed with no physical discs, it makes it all the easier for big corporations to censor what people can view by simply not streaming anything they don't want people to view, or stopping streaming something that's become popular for reasons they don't like. This could result in woke conditioning as Disney and Amazon are aiming to achieve, or on the opposite end of the spectrum, neo-Nazi conditioning, based upon whether the company in question is left or right-wing. With DVDs on the other hand (and Blu-Rays and 4K, they count too), if you were able to buy it, then you can watch it as many times as you like with no fear of anyone taking it away from you (unless the company sends in goons to ransack your house and confiscate them, but this of course is illegal even for corporate moguls - nobody is above the law).

Perhaps I'm being too stubborn to adapt, but not all change is progress, and I think this is something that will endanger human society more than benefit it. I wish to do my bit to keep the old ways alive, as an island of stability against the sea of modernist degeneration.

Based on our ages, I should be the one set in my ways. :p

    I think it is inevitable.

A fair point. I have become accustomed to easy access to solid Wi-Fi.

This is the often cited rationale for physical media. While admittedly there is some truth in it, I ultimately have very little fear of it. Once on the internet, always on the internet. Let's say Disney decide to remove (or alter) a movie or show, in but a few moments, one could easily find "alternative" sources for said movie or tv show.
