Hi guys, i have a question regarding stripping minatures, ive looked arouund and all i can find is the american version...simple green any one know of a british way and take me through the steps please thanks.
Stripping means to remove the old paint? If so use brake fluid like DOT-3 or DOT-4. Simly put miniatures into jar filled with it and wait few hours. Miniatures without basecoat paint will drop off after hour. You shouldn't keep plastics more than 12 hours though, but metal miniatures can swim to funeral (I've kept one for month, when I go on holidays)
I think I have seen it mentioned that you could use something call Dettol. I am not familiar with that stuff. I heard about it on hersey online here: http://www.heresy-online.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16330&highlight=stripping+paint There is the link. Hope it helps.
You cac try using Pine-Sol. I have not used it on metal yet but it worked pretty good for plastic. I found the info on this site: http://www.how-to-paint-miniatures.com/
tankyou very much, ill try and get one of the items you reccomended over the weekend and see if i can post something up.
I use Nitromors is really easy to get hold of: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_181000_langId_-1_categoryId_165495 ...never tried stripping plastic but for metal this stuff is awesome, I mix it 1 part Nitro with about 3 parts water, mix it with a stick and put them in. Much like Kadzick said for the DOT you can leave them in there for an age, but a few hours will usually do and then give them a brush off with a firm tooth brush, job done. Actually while you're out make sure you pick up a firm tooth brush or something similar, it's a nightmare when you have to use your wife's and then pretend the dog chewed it.
I use Dettol all the time just pour some Dettol and some water in a jar, dump your old mini and in a few hours you can start brushing. Works on plastics and metals. The only downside is that you have to keep them in the jar for a couple of days if you really want the paint to dissolve. If you keep em in for a couple of hours the paint turns into a sticky substance that can be hard to remove from recesses without a decent brush?
thanks for all of the replies....loving the wife story cant believe somone could pull something like that of hehe
Well there is a euro version of Simple Green ... can't recall the name tho, maybe some ealse knows it ?
