True, Star Wars is a space fantasy. But it isn't the medieval type fantasy that largely inspired the Warhammer universe like LOTR did. Warhammer has far more in common with LOTR than Star Wars.

As such, my point on potential forum bias stands.

Whenever we're mixing universes, I usually do so with the assumption that characters largely work in the same manner as they did in their native story universe. There isn't any canon covering such things, so its fair to make such basic assumptions for comparisons sake. The point is to explore how character X would fare in story universe Y, with character X's traditional skill/power set.

I would say that that is true, excepting that we might be the exception to the rule on that. We are the faction with spaceships traveling planet to planet, aaaand have motherflipping lasers hehe :p

I am fine with taking Yoda at face value power levelwise, I just try to leave midichlorians at the door. It opens up DBZ conversations that feel irrelevant to the argument (over 9000!).

Yoda can catch a chunk of debris that could be casually weighed in at roughly 1,000 tons (I couldn't find an official reference for that scene in attack of the clones, so I did some very rough volumetric calcs). That is a lot, like a lot a lot. I would rather use that metric for a slugfest is all.

Avoiding lasers for a second, I think Gandalf and the other wizards are intrinsically tied to Middle Earth itself and their powers would not work if they climbed on a spaceship and left it.

This doesn't necessarily mean that Jedi or Sith would lose their powers if they landed on Middle Earth, but the Valar and/or the Maiar could stop Star Wars magic and technology from working on Middle Earth if they decreed it so.

If you gave the Jedi swords or gave the heroes of Gondor lasers, it might equal out.

Jedi and wizards don't use the same strategy though. Essentially the Jedi fight for the Republic. Even when the Jedi are not fighting, it's clones fighting, not ordinary Republic citizens. Gandalf and the wizards are individually powerful but their true purpose is to inspire ordinary people to greatness, not be great on their behalf.

Even the non-wizard heroes, Aaragon, Gimili and Legolas are there to inspire. Sure, Gimli and Legolas kill about 60 enemies each but there are thousands in Sauron's army.

Arguably, the actions of normal people in the Star Wars universe don't really matter, whereas in Middle Earth the actions of normal people define the battle between good and evil.

That is why I ultimately like LOTR much more.

There is no basis upon which to make that assertion.

Nothing seen from Sauron, Saruman or Gandalf would indicate that they could pull off such a feat. Their magic is pretty low tier. The force is created by life, so it would stand to reason that as long as there is life there is the force. Not only that, it seems that the life required to create the force can be very far away from the force user as we don't see them experience a dip in power when in the isolated far reaches of space.

The Jedi/Sith are going to be better combatants because they exist and excel in a far harsher universe. Middle Earth is technologically behind us while Star Wars is technologically ahead of us.

The lightsaber wouldn't be as much of an issue as the force powers are.... even for the Jedi, but most especially for the Sith who utilize a far more offensive utilization of the force (lightening, force choke, etc.)

As for giving the heroes of Gondor lasers, do you mean giving them lightsabers or do you mean blasters?

The rebellion is made up of a rag tag bunch of "little guys".

Just saying, if anyone in middle earth was going to be able to lift and wield Mjolnir, it would be our boy Sam...

I was thinking that in an apples to apples comparison, LOTR hasn't been humiliated by franchise fatigue and Frankenstein monster adaptation as much as Star Wars.

    But I was wrong.

I thought Zaslov could be the first major company executive to right a corporate ship, but no.

I used to be upset by movies without artistic merit. But it is possible for a movie without artistic merit to entertain people and money. Michael Bay built his career on this.

I cannot see how this LOTR will make money. I can't. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills sometimes.

It is not said they will remake the Lord of the Rings, just that they have got the rights to all that is in the books of the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings (including its appendix)

This one explains it more closely and the possibilities it has in store

    Grrr, !mrahil

That video is very optimistic. I am not optimistic.

Pessimists are happier than optimists. 90% of the time they are right and 10% of the time they are pleasantly surprised.

On the plus side, it is almost guaranteed that anything Warner Brother does will be better than Rings of Power and having WB debut Middle Earth content at roughly the same time Rings of Prime Seasons hit the internet will only make Amazon fail harder and faster, or at least a piece of their streaming service.

That's cold comfort, as shadenfreude is not as enjoyable for me as watching something good.

NotR is usually pretty positive. It's not always realistic, but at least he's tries to put a good spin on something.

Here's a really gushing video talking about the technical and artistic marvel that The Lord of Rings was and lamenting how nothing that came out afterwards measured up to it, including The Hobbit.

If I can boil down the lightning in a bottle to one thing, it would the answer to one of Gollum's riddles, "TIME!"

One thing that apart LOTR trilogy from other blockbuster movies (and from The Hobbit movies even) was that the production crew was given lots of time to get things right. The Hobbit movies had a much bigger budget but looked worse, I'm going to posit this was largely because Peter Jackson was put on a tight schedule.

I'm not sure generous production schedules are a magic bullet to guarantee a box office hit/fan favorite but I do see a correlation between franchise movies and shows flopping and unforgiving rushed production schedules.
