Just to mix something that @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl hates with something that he loves. I'm betting on hate prevailing overall.

It simply fulfils Tolkien's quote that "Evil can only corrupt what has already been created by good".

I presume this must have been made when Episode VII's title was known but nobody knew anything about what the film would be like, so the creator based this poster off Heir to the Empire. Is that Jacen Solo, looking rather like Hayden Christensen somewhat ironically, beside old Luke?

Now that we've seen how shit the Sequel Trilogy turned out to be, I'd have been interested to see what an Heir to the Empire trilogy would have looked like. Even to a Prequel fan like me who doesn't care so much about the OT characters, I doubt it could have been worse than what we actually got.

Apparently, there are rumors swirling around the interwebs that Disney might be selling Star Wars. Naturally, there's a connected rumor that George might buy it back. I suppose it could be true, but I doubt Disney will get rid of a potentially profitable IP like Star Wars, despite not delivering on it. Even if Lucas does buy back SW, I don't know what he could really do with it to salvage it? Lots of people were frustrated by the PT, so even his track record after the "lightning" that was OT Star Wars is mixed. Plus, what could he really do with it? Thoughts?

Let me use a clunky metaphor. Radio existed much longer than that but it was really BIG in the 1930s and 1940s. Then television became big. Now television is losing ground to the internet.

The thing is, there is still radio stations in 2023. They just have much smaller staffs. In my opinion, the BEST Star Wars can hope for is salvaged into a tiny but enduring piece of the fiction landscape like Robin Hood or King Arthur.

Then again this goes back to the public domain issues and Star Wars is a long way from the public domain. Imagine if everyone could release Star Wars movies like it with Robin Hood. There are a lot of crap Robin Hood movies but a few gems.

Disney has been lobbying to extend the public domain every time Mickey Mouse is in danger of entering public domain. But it expires in 2024 and Disney has powerful politicians gunning for them and they are running out of money. They might not be able to alter the public domain again.

These are good points. I hate to agree, only because I would like to have another strong SW movie/series. Or at least have the SW feel strong and positive. But, I'm more of an OT fan anyway, so I'm happy with that trilogy. I imagine you feel the same about the PT.

Absolutely, at least we have the good stuff that has come out to still enjoy, the wokists can't take that away from us. I only recently rewatched my top-quality pre-Disney-era Lucasfilm Prequel DVDs with cool planet-themed main menus for the umpteenth time, and they are still as glorious as they ever were. Plus I have Rogue One as well, unfortunately on a Disney-era DVD with a bland menu and no special features, but the film itself is still great, and as I have a hard copy, again Disney can't cancel it or twist it to their own ends.

I really can't see Disney selling Lucasfilm, but I REALLY can't see them selling it back to George Lucas. Imagine what a massive admittance of failure that would be. Plus, what would they do then? Create new IP/content?... that's not really something they do very much of now.

On the other side, I am highly skeptical that Lucas would want reacquire Lucasfilm. He had enough of it a decade ago and he is nearly 80 years old now. I doubt he has much desire to take on such responsibility again. Secondly, does it make financial sense for him to do so? He gave away a large portion of the 4 billion dollars he made off the sale to charity. According to a quick Google search, he is still has a net worth of somewhere in the vicinity of $5 billion USD. So the question is: how much is Lucasfilm worth today? How much would Disney be willing to sell it for? Is Lucas really going to liquidate all his assets to reacquire it? Would he go into debt? Would he be willing to share ownership with partners?

Assuming he did reacquire it, sky's the limit. When you've hit rock bottom (as Star Wars has), the only place to go is up. People are starving for non-woke Star Wars content. In today's Hollywood climate, even mediocre non-woke content (that stays true to what came before) is lauded and praised. The first couple of seasons of the Mandalorian are a prime example of this. Plus, the fact that it would be run by its creator again would immediately bring a lot of Star Wars fans back. Instant credibility.

I think the best case scenario would be for Lucas to oversee things at a top level while bringing in talented film makers to actually create the new movies/shows. I'd love to see something like the Nolan Batman trilogy in the Star Wars universe. Or what could James Cameron do (if he is ever done with Avatar)? What about Denis Villeneuve? Maybe he could coax Quentin Tarantino to make an interesting one-off movie (longshot, but you never know). Maybe bring back Genndy Tartakovsky. That's just to name a few. I'm not sure how many of them would be open to create something in the Star Wars universe, but some will.

We may have missed the boat with Han, Leia and Luke, but there are plenty of great stories to be told. Sign me up for a Darth Bane trilogy. Revan is uber popular. With Lucas on board, they can come up with entirely new stuff and just have him okay it.

I never thought about it this way, I thought people had all got fed up of new Star Wars content with the way merchandise is rotting... but then 80% of the recent Star Wars content has been woke, so I suppose that's the reason.

Hmm, be careful what you wish for with Cameron:

I'd be up to see Gareth Edwards return, he cares about Star Wars. He was the one who stopped KK from making Rogue One woke and gave it some much-needed grimdarkness. In fact his original ideas for it were even darker than the final film was. Tony Gilroy also seems to be decent, he still kept a lot of of Rogue One's darkness and allegedly preserved it for Andor.

A Darth Bane trilogy would be interesting, or a film of Darth Plagueis with the script based on the novel (with Andy Serkis as Plagueis, and Ian McDiarmid and Ray Park returning as Sidious and Maul), having a Sith Lord as the main protagonist would really propel Star Wars in a new direction.

Lots of fans (I'd argue the real fans) simply don't trust Disney and Disney Star Wars. Bring back Lucas, and we are likely to see a large percentage of them return. I still think there is a market for toys based on real (non-Disney) Star Wars.

I am skeptical as to how much he was involved with that movie. He has been focused on his Avatar series for over a decade now and not much else. I think his name was attached to it just to give it some legitimacy. He didn't direct it and it wasn't his baby. We've seen what Cameron's Terminator is like. Plus, the beauty of the scenario I presented above is that George Lucas would always have the final say. All content created by the various creators would have to fit within the general framework of Lucas' vision for Star Wars.

I'm surprised Picard could ever be considered a Sith, I think he of all the Captains would be closest to a Jedi - adherent to the Prime Directive, reluctant to get into relationships, stoic, brave, willing to sacrifice himself for his crew.

That's true, he's probably the least likely of the captains to fall to the Dark Side. We do see a bit of it as an after effect of borg assimilation in First Contact, but it's pretty rare.
