Star Trek vs. Star Wars (and a collection of memes)

I agree. I think this all just internet hype. I wish Lucas hadn't sold it, but I don't think he could (or would) buy it back (even if it were true).

I don't know how well Lucas plays with others, and I'm not sure how I'd feel about some of those directors, but who knows?

*To digress, how cool would it have been to let Genndy Tartakovsky direct a Mandalorian episode? I feel like he would have been a good fit for the original vibe of the show. To digress a bit more, I lament that the Mandalorian wasn't the Boba Fett series. What I mean is that, as a kid, I was instantly fascinated by all of those "bounty hunter scum" in ESB. How cool would it have been to have Boba Fett's adventures as a bounty hunter and occasionally running into those other rogues like Zucchus, 4-LOM, Bossk, Dengar, etc? In fact, I think Disney basically tried to hit those "member berries" by bringing in the IG droid and the Trandoshan fight into the first couple episodes of Mando.*

Regardless, Lucas overseeing things (or executive producing) seems logical. Maybe he could come up with some story ideas as well? I agree that Lucas being connected would likely restore fan appeal for Star Wars.
