What is this? Why it is the ramblings of a madman, but hear me out. The general portrayals in lore as well as gameplay suggest that the lizardmen and seraphon are not ectotherms (cold-blooded), and are instead endotherms (warm-blooded). Despite the constant claims in books that lizardmen are allegedly cold-blooded, the basis of this is actually relatively unfounded for a number of reasons. First among the reasoning is growth. While we don't know much about the inner-workings of spawning pools, we do know that it works reasonably quickly, too quickly for a cold-blooded reptile bigger than a man to be spit out in the allotted time. I will leave in the caveat though that it is of course magic (although this explanation is kind boring). Second point: activity levels. Ectotherms even in ideal climates simply are unable to keep up a high level of activity before succumbing to fatigue before a similarly sized endotherm needs to stop and rest. Both in lore and gameplay we have seen lizardmen performing physical feats (notably combat, but also the various quick motions of things like skinks) for a period of time that an ectotherm is simply incapable of. Third and I think most compelling is the presence of lizardmen being physically capable in environments that would kill any ectotherm. Some key examples of this are the early lizardmen culling numerous species in the ancient history of the old world, and this artwork done in the first edition seraphon battletotme I am kind of curious though, what are your guys thoughts? Is there something I overlooked?
I like the discussion, however, applying modern scientific fact and philosophy to a fantasy world where magic and gods are very real seems difficult to me. I like the cold-blooded narrative for Lizardmen personally. Makes them even more unique.
