Congrats to @Imrahil for making it to 11K!

Meanwhile I've noticed I've been able to climb to 7th in the Most Posts table (and am inching ever closer to 9K, before the all-important double-Slannhood) and am getting towards the top five in the Most Likes table (and approaching a quadruple Like-Slannhood)!

I shall steal a NIGHTBRINGER quote for this:

5 7's is a special kind of Yahtzee roll that requires magic dice. I sense a Plan that might not be Great. Tzeentch might be involved...

Or Nurgle, given 7 is the latter's Sacred Number :p (though that would be surprising, given @NIGHTBRINGER shares my dislike for Grandfather Wobblediguts).

    I do indeed dislike Nurgle.

Tzeentch, Slaanesh and Hashut all the way!

Hashut is not one of the big four Chaos gods... but yes, they are the best!

    Debatable.
Leaving aside Ashut, the true 4 chaos gods are Tzeentch, Khorne, Nurgle and Slaanesh.
The relative power level may occasionally shift but in the end they are more or less on the same tier.
Who's the "best" is left to personal preferences.

According to the 8th edition WoC army book, their relative power levels are as follows:
    1. Khorne
    2. Tzeentch
    3. Nurgle [although he sometimes eclipses the other 3 combined]
    4. Slaanesh

"Khorne is the most powerful of the Dark Gods."

"Although Nurgle is ranked behind Khorne and Tzeentch, the truth is that his power is not necessarily weaker, but that it is less stable than that of his brothers. Like a plague, his strength can grow in virulence and reach epidemic levels, temporarily overshadowing that of all the other gods put together, before consuming itself and waning again."

"Tzeentch is almost as powerful as Khorne, but his power takes a very different form, for the Changer of Ways is the master of magic and subtlety."

"Though Slaanesh is the least of the Dark Gods, he is an important player in the divine game whose favour can swing the balance of power, giving him influence disproportionate to his strength. However, his power is growing all the time, and soon the Dark Prince will come to rival his brothers and, who knows, even rise above them."

[WoC 8th edition army book, pages 10-11]

Maybe other sources disagree? I believe Slaanesh is typically depicted as being on the rise and not yet the equal of the other three. That said, if I had to put money on it over the long game, I'm placing my bets on Tzeentch. Trickery, foresight, knowledge and magic are too powerful when applied across a significant enough length of time. Tzeentch may lose the battle, but he'd win the war.

    True, you must pick two:
    • pick fights with the most powerful opponents you can find until either you or they are all dead
    • read some books and cast some magic
    • contract a whole slew of disgusting diseases
    • hookup with a hot chick

As you said, personal preferences. ;)

I don't know about Hashut, but I like Chaos Dwarves, fluffwise.

In the book Tamurkhan, the Chaos Dwarves were the only adult in the room on the Chaos side.

Evil, certainly? But not not dumb.

But they had a plan and carried it out. They backed up Tamurkhan's big Chaos coalition just in case Tamurkhan won but their main goal was to capture lots of samples of the Empire's black powder technology so the Chaos Dwarves knew what they were up against.

They also had a backup plan and line of retreat ready, so while the rest of the Chaos was unexpectedly losing to the forces of the Empire, the Chaos Dwarves retreated safely with a bunch of slaves and stolen treasure.

Ah, you're right to a certain point, as i was exactly talking about the preferences of any potential follower.

Khorne: strenght and power, what's not to like? I'm the master of myself.
Tzeentch: the ability to manipulate destiny. It is appealing to people that are basically the opposite of Khorne's follower
Nurgle: promises immortality and no more suffering. Depending on the people, it can be really tempting
Slaanesh: Luxury and pleasure are really strong motivations that drive men and that can erase any reasoning.

It really boils down to what kind of person you are. The slaanesh dude will say "why should i pick power through pain and suffering, when i can get power through pleasure and self-indulgency?"

An interesting perspective, you're looking at it from the vantage point of what is promised (the motivation) and I'm looking at it through the lens of what is actually delivered (the result).

While all those motivations are justifiable, at the end of the day, which would you rather end up as...

I wonder if an extreme introvert could consider the Nurgle options, just to be sure he'll be left alone. :p

Nurgle followers have a weird sense of community. Nurglings are really tightly bound together. I think Tzeentch would be the best introvert's infernal lord and Khorne would be the second best for introverts.

Khorne's followers want to get out and meet people, so they're more extroverted. The fact that they then want to FIGHT those people is irrelevant.
