What do you all use to make movement trays? How many of you use a magnetic device to keep the critters in one place? I have been looking at using refrigerator "sheet" magnets - anyone have experiance with this kind of set up? Will this stuff suffice? http://www.custom-magnets.com/Adhesive_magnet_rolls.htm Thanks, Kaax Taat
my experience with the rolls of fridge magnets is that thaty stick to steel good enough, but don't stick to each outher very well at all. Just something to consider.
Yo, I have and probably always will use magnets on my units. It makes it so much easier to transport IMO. I also have a metal tool box that I transport them in with magnets on the bottom so I can literally put the entire unit in it and it will not shift (with the exception of some heavy stuff). I have always used Michael's or Hobby Lobby... they sell sheets of balsa wood for like $6 and then the skinny, square pieces I'll use to make the border of the movement tray. They also have rolls of magnet sheets for about $10 that is about 24" x 12", pretty big and can cover a lot of models. As for the metal, I have gone to Home Depot in the past and buy a sheet of metal that is magnetic (make sure to take a magnet cuz some are not magnetic, I found that out the hard way...) It'll cost you about $10-$15 depending on how big you get it. I use tin snips to get it to the right size of the movement tray. It's a little bit of work to get everything you need, buy my movement trays are tough as nails and the models don't go anywhere when I'm transporting them. You can look at some of my posts to get an idea of what my trays look like. Also, I'll take some pics later this evening and show you some more of what I'm talking about. Hope that helps. Good luck!
