I am wondering if anyone has any ideas about how to connect the bases of models permanently together in rows. I have seen a few people who have done this before (mostly Skaven players) but I'm not sure how to go about it.
Just glue, I would suggest putting them upside down and pushing them together with glue so they didn't stick to whatever surface they are on. Make sure they are flush and square before the glue dries. Then once it has dried completely, fill the gap with greenstuff to add extra strength. Plastic glue would make a very strong bond, but it can also warp plastic a little bit since that is how it works. Superglue would work fine. Also note that GW do sell skinny bases that could be used instead if you are the type to spend money rather than effort.
Thanks for the help. Using Cavalry bases occured to me too but I am doing this for several units of skinks; so the bases would have been too wide.
If you are going to glue standard bases together, I would actually glue them all to some sort of movement tray (either commercial or homemade), as simply gluing the bases to one another will not be particularly stable or resilient, especially when you try and pick the whole thing up. Additionally, just gluing bases to bases will run the risk of being uneven at joints, so that they may not sit perfectly flat when turned back over.
I think GW made a base for Skaven weapon teams that was like 4 or 5 skink bases wide... not sure if that one is still in production tho.
