    He had
    - gutter runners with multishot and a grey seer inside (ruby ring, daemon magic missile)
    - storm vermin, drugs for frenzy, D3 combat res banner and swiftstride
    - general and BSB in that unit, general had a poison D3 wounds blade
    - unit of giant rats in marching column
    - two units of clan rats

Scenario was the 18" deployment one where the game ends when you're under 25% unit strength.

My opponent felt he has put together a fairly decent list and asked me to bring the heat. "No 3x carnosaurs or anything but around B+ power level".

    Deployment & turn 1 - him

This was an interesting one. I felt like I had quite a lot of quality and that I also outnumbered him. I had a strong centre and was going to use the skirmishers (skinks, swarms, old blood horned one) to stop getting flanked while the monsters wore him down.

He had the first turn. He moved his clanrats up and as the left flank were in marching column he put them right in front of my dinosaurs to prevent impact hits.

He focused his shooting on the Slann. He got a little unlucky with the gutter runners only doing 2 wounds. However add a ratling gun, and three magic missile (I think only one was needed) and that's it! Slann was dead before it has a chance to move.

    Turn 1 - me
    20250214_183050.jpg

Losing the Slann was bad but I saw a lot of opportunities in the game.

The carnosaur and the old blood charged the clanrats in the woods. The carnosaur failed but the old blood made it. He was now disrupted and couldn't count his rank bonus in either combat resolution or leadership. He killed a couple and they GG.

The Troglodon and Saurus charged the clan rats.

The stegadon charged the rats in the front. The swarms charged in the flank. We easily won combat and they fled. Another big issue for him was the swarms had a higher unit strength, so they fled through the clan rats, we pursued into the flank. The stegadon could disrupt them and of course we all got a new combat round.

At the end of the round the trog had taken two wounds, the swarms 4, and he'd lost two large units, and was in another combat he probably wasn't going to win. He needed something big.

    Turn 2 - him

His storm vermin charged the carnosaur. A challenge was issued and his general had initiative. He got two wounds through and he rolled 2xd3 which a chance to do the full 6... Unfortunately he rolled badly and only did 2. In turn Azcaramani did 3 wounds just killing then general with a final stomp. We still lost combat by a lot and broke. I rolled a 6 on the 3 dice... And he rolled a 5! We lived but were very lucky to get out of that twice.

The old blood again won combat just and they GG.

    Rest of game
There was some shooting to the gutter runners and we did a few wounds.

Aeontezin eventually broke and ran down the clan rats. He took a wound in combat and another from shooting and ended the game on 1.

Azcaramani rallied and got into combat again. He had a champion with a shield that gave +3 to armour but didn't challenge and the game ended with them in combat. We rolled after and a challenge would have meant another carnosaur break. Stacking combat res is pretty good against monsters.

The gutter runners took a few wounds but chopped down a lot of skinks. Then swarms killed the lone ratling gun.

    Breakdown

Well we have good games and bad games and I think my opponent made a couple of errors he couldn't come back from. He does read these reports but it's something we discussed after the game. Having the clanrats disrupted and allowing his big units to be flanked was hard to come back from. I rolled quite well too.

But really he was a millimetre from killing the carnosaur and old blood at the end, but in this scenario it's actually not a lot of good as it goes off unit strength. But I guess with slightly better luck and one of the 3 units remaining, it would have been an uphill battle for me.
