I got rid of 99% of all my 40k models and my collection is almost entirely WHFB models now. Many of those wouldn't fare too well in the 40k universe. I've got but two 40k models remaining. Lucky for me those are the Nightbringer and Deceiver. And since they are 3rd edition pre-shard business, I think I'd do just fine with two Star Gods by my side!
If my armies cooperate, I think i could conquer and defend a solar system against everything except for major threats
Unless you meet Necrons. The last time the SIlent King decided to come after those Star Gods, we know how it ended. Other than that, you should do fine.
That's only under the new shitty retcon. Like I said, my C'tan models are from 3rd edition, where the Necrons were never able to defeat them. The Necrons remained enslaved to them. I fear no Necron!
Alas, as per OP (Original Picture) this scenario happens in the current edition, so you "feelings" have no weight.
Actually, that's your feelings. The original picture does not mention anything about which edition it pertains to. It is you that is making that assumption. I own a 3rd edition Nightbringer and a 3rd edition Deceiver. They are 3rd edition models I bought them during 3rd edition I have the 3rd edition codex under which they were bought that details their background I can assure you that their is no mention of them being shards. That shard nonsense wouldn't be a thing until 9 years later. By the time that 5th edition Necron codex dropped, I had fully abandoned 40k and was enjoying 8th edition WHFB. You are free to have your C'tan shards protect you in this fictitious scenario, I prefer the real thing. #NotMyShards
um... yeaaaaah, that would not go well for me. My 40K armies are Orks, my converted Space Skaven/Imperial Guard, and Chaos Daemons...
Alas, in the pic there are primaris space marines, so it's 8th edition at most, or a more recent one. It's not an assumption.
There is nothing to imply that the picture is in anyway indicative of what edition the scenario is confined to. It could be representative of models that someone might own or just a stock picture; who knows and irrelevant. You're making assumptions as to what the picture means. I'm going by what the caption actually says (and what it doesn't say). RAW = "any miniatures that you own"... and I own non-shard C'tan. That's what they were sculpted as. That's what they were written as. That's what I bought them as. That's what I played them as. RAI = we don't know their intentions, so we default to the other OP (original poster)... oh wait, that's me!
Now it's you the one that is making assumptions. The picture that you posted is the only thing we have, and it shows models that can be set in a precise time / edition. There's nothing that could let us suppose the scenario was made to cover different periods, let alone to include a particular piece of lore which is no more canon since decades. In the current lore, the only one that matters, C'tan are shards. And C'tan were defeated by necrons. The lore won't change only because you don’t like that 3rd edition necrons ruled by ctan is no more a thing.
The picture is irrelevant. It's interpretation requires too many assumptions. The picture is not instructive as to how the "game" is played, the caption is. And the caption does not specify an edition. The words in the caption > picture My models (as per the instructions in the original caption) are from 3rd editions. Neither of them are a thing. They are both fictious. Disney Star Wars taught me a lot about canon and "current lore". You can have Disney Star Wars, I'll keep the Expanded Universe (or Legends as you might know it). You can have AoS, I'll keep WHFB. In the same sense, you can keep this shitty new shard version of the lore, I'll keep the good stuff. You are free to interpret your C'tan as being shards. Just don't be jealous that mine are better!
You mean I'll have more Necron slaves. I think even by your lower quality lore, the Necrons no longer have the weapons used to fragment the C'tan. In actuality, your necrons are made of plastic with plastic bases. My C'tan are made of metal (pewter) with solid brass bases. Metal is stronger. My C'tan will win the bludgeoning contest.
