I like the new Rohan stuff, great to have new poses for the horses. They probably are a bit bigger than the old sculpts, just like the Infantry.

The City of Sigmar stuff looks very thematic. The walking tower si a bit over the top, how would they know how to build cylinders to operate that thing. It looks very out of place and time....

I already spotted several solutions to Rumour Engines. I will be updating them tomorrow.

    Grrr, !mrahil

Couldn't give a toss about Cities of Skubmar, the Guard releases or yet more Lord of the Rings humans in plastic (the Middle-Earth team continuing to be on fine form trying to turn Middle Earth into Westeros) :shifty:, but the new Eshin releases are excellent, about bloody time they made some new Night Runners. Trouble is, I have some of the old monkey-rat ones... though I can at least grab the Gutter Runners, as I have none of the old metal sculpts of those.

Also, love the new plastic Red Terror:

Much bigger than its old 3rd Edition incarnation, but given even the original lore stated that different Imperial Guardsmen kept reporting that it was anywhere between a Ravener and Trygon in size, the new size looks right. A lot bigger than a Ravener but still smaller than a Trygon I think.

Will have to tweak the 6th rules for it in my Ultimate Edition Addendum for the Tyranid Codex now :D

The Cogfort has been in the lore for a fair while, and was, to my knowledge, one of the most requested things to be made a model.

The sound of the stream was shite, but somebody with better hearing than me said that the stream mentioned that the cogforts are built by the dwarfs. And some other details. Like engine core being ejected and airlifted out with balloons if it looks like the Cogfort is going to be lost.

I think the letdown a few people had was the reveal that they are functionally AoS Imperial Knights, who can be attached to any army and not just cities of Sigmar, because they go private contractor.

Nice enough... but let us actually see some of these Dwarfs, not more of the dull generic fantasy manling models :oldman:
To be fair, Sons of Behemat already were AoS Imperial Knights, this is just adding more fuel to the fire.

That's not to say it's a good idea though... Imperial Knights were a horrible idea to begin with.

Hmm, way to take a unique concept for a faction and then just let everybody have access to it instead of being limited to the one faction. ¬_¬

That was probably the main let down I had with the Cities of Sigmar reveal. Still more humans, none of the dwarfs or elves who allegedly call the free cities their home alongside the humans.

But I did get a chuckle at the two giants who are literally holding the two halves of a gate as their shields. That was a nice touch. Though like the ogres, those crows nests can NOT be very stable/steady for the poor gunners in them.

Father Jack? What are you doing? Where're Father Ted and Father Dougal?

Apart from the skaven and Rohan stuff, everything is crap and of no interest. It all looks same-o.

As a CoS player, I see the Cogfort, and I don't want it.

Not because it's an arcano-mechanical construct that's honestly fitting of the fantastical setting, but rather because I feel that it's going to be ill-suited for the size of game it's expected to be played in, with an added dose of "big dumb model" syndrome that I'm kind of tired of seeing.

On the other hand, as much as people complain about it being "AoS Imperial Knights" like Sons of Behemat, I respectfully disagree. Yes, they're big, dumb, and you're likely not going to be able to fit more than a single digit of them into a normal game, but unlike their 40k counterparts they're not some gimmicky stat check you have to specifically key into to defeat - let's not forget that units in AoS wound things on a flat value rather than on a scaling difference between the attacker's strength and the defender's toughness, and as such blocks of 20 infantry are probably going to be the thing's worst nightmare.

As an aside, as someone invested in a Living City army, I'd be stoked if there was any model love for CoS that wasn't called Freeguild, especially regarding the cities that don't have Hammerhal in the name. I really do miss when the sub-factions were a thing.

I'm surprised there is so much pushback against the Cogfort. I'm not an Empire guy myself, so it is of no use to me, but it is neat.

I've not been seeing that much pushback elsewhere. Mostly just memes calling it Howl's Moving Castle.

The Cogfort was actually the second most requested addition I was seeing for CoS, beaten only by "Non-human additions to the faction that was explicitly described as a melting pot of different races". In other words, the only thing that would have made those people happier would have been some Dwarf and Elf foot soldiers to stand shoulder to shoulder with the over-represented humans.

Was it already in the lore?

The memes are fair. It is hardly a unique concept, but Warhammer as always been a melting pot of ideas poached from elsewhere. Ideas that are then reforged to suit the Warhammer world. I think the Cogfort is a fine addition to AoS from a model perspective. Ruleswise remains to be seen, whether or not it can avoid the pitfalls of being an "apocalypse-level" centerpiece or not. I'm certainly not one to speak on the nuances of AoS rules.

It was indeed. I can't give the specifics of its place in the lore beforehand, as while I like the setting of the Mortal Realms, my appreciation is less the fixed points that GeeDubs like to obsess over, and more the concept of the open setting with enough space to create your own slice of it without risking canon conflicts - much the same as 40k has enough planets that you can create your own star system of battles and there is little to say it doesn't exist in some capacity in the canon. So long as you don't include canonical characters... because seeing Guilliman getting shanked on some no-name planet, while hilarious, is obviously not going to be canon.

So, yah, can't point at the direct references. But Cogforts have been in the lore since at least the previous edition of AoS.

Very true. Even the Emperor on the Golden Throne was itself a reference to Dune, where the Emperor sat on the Golden Lion Throne. Never mind all the meme regiments of Imperial Guard. Don't try to convince me that the Deathcorp of Krieg aren't specifically meant to be a meme regiment. Cadians were obvious movie-Starship Troopers. Though with Cadians, I think they're sort of trying to move past that origin.

As for whether Sigmar's Moving Castle can avoid those pitfalls? Hmm... Probably not, but I'm saying that from the perspective of somebody who has long since lost faith in GeeDub's ability to write rules. And yet, fool that I am, I hear about "new edition" and I think to myself "will they improve the rules? I must have hope!"

Their announcement of 11th Edition 40k... trying to bridge Narrative and Competitive Balance... like, cool goal? Will be happy for the 40k players if they manage it... but words are cheap, so until I see the result, I have to remind myself that optimism is not my friend.

As much as I am naturally optimistic, I like being a pessimist. Being a pessimist means I either get the satisfaction of knowing I am right, or I get to be PLEASANTLY surprised. XD

Not to mention how much WHFB "borrows" from Lord of the Rings.

Which I think makes it a fine addition to the game. It's a neat looking model, and quite different from anything else.

    Welcome brother!
