So here is what I have so far: 16 Skinks with Krox Level 2 priest with Diadem of power two units of 13 Saurus with standard and Drummer. 8 Chameleon skinks Saurus Old Blood on Cold one w/ Halberd Skink Chief on Terradon with staff of the lost sun, light armor and shield Total: 996 Points Thoughts? Would like to try and get to 1000 so I can play an introductory game.
hi. I say combine the two sourus units into one larger. If you dont want two setups of comand, either remove 2 saurus, or simply exchange the arms. also, give your priest the plaque of tepok.
Giving the chief the staff of the sun is a waste in my opinion. I have taken that build several times in both 7th and 8th edition. I have never had him earn his points back by shooting. Sure, he hits easily, but for some reason, I almost never score any wounds using that staff. Anyway, if it were me, I would equip him with fencing blades or the Gold Sigil sword and a shield. Or even some heavy armor to get him a much needed ward save.
Hmm okay. If you think thats too many lords/heroes I could remove them and add another chameleon unit maybe?
I think you need a few changes to that skink chief, being all alone like that he is liable to get turned into a pulpy mass really early on. I would give him the Charmed shield for a nice little 2+ wardsave against the first wound suffered. Dropping his regular shield for this would put you at 999 points. As for thew rest . . . yeah I would combine the two Saurus units into one larger one, just dropping the command units instead of replacing them with regular Saurus would give you points towards either the Plaque of Tepok for the priest or some protective items for your Old Blood. He is also very vulnerable sitting on top of that sole cold one. Is this the entirety of what you own so far?
Here's the link to my intro post with everything I found in my box. http://www.lustria-online.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=6608 So give him the Charmed shield and the gold sigil sword?
Alright so lets start with just tweaking this list a little bit, then we can try to change stuff in and out after you've had a few games. Lords: Saurus Old Blood Cold One, Light Armour, Halberd Heroes: Skink Chief Terradon, Light armour, Spear, Charmed Shield, Venom of the Firefly Frog Skink Priest Level 2, Plaque of Tepok Core: 16 Skinks Kroxigor 23 Saurus Warriors Standard, Musician Special: 8 Chameleon Skinks I am not anywhere near my army book right now but I'm pretty sure with this you've still got 10-15 points to spend. I would also just check to make sure you are within the points limits for heroes it looks mighty close to 25% to me.
I think thats 945 points, and thats with 26 Saurus instead of 23. Can anyone double check that? Charmed shield isn't in my guide so I can't calculate it. In my calculations I have Lords: 189, Heroes: 221, Core: 439, Special: 96
Too character heavy the lord would be enough at that level OR a level 2 with the extra spell. But I would probably stick with the Oldblood (on a cold one is a nice touch) then just put a single solid block of saurus and tonnes of harrassing skirmishing skinks with a salamander maybe?
Haha maybe a salamender. What I have now is: Lord: Old blood Horned one Shield Blade of Tzunki Heroes Chief w/ Terradon, charmed shield, staff of lost son Priest w/ level 2, plaque of topek Core: 20 saurus w/ full command 8 skink skirmishers 8 skink skirmishers rare: 6 x chameleons 6x chameleons total = 1000 points it's a fully painted battle, so trying to get my painted figures in. Still character heavy i know.
Your Lord is 1 point over the allowance and Skinks have a minimum unit size of 10. As for tweaks, the Horned one and the Blade of Revered Tzunki are really expensive and you can achieve the same effects for a lot less. A Lord on a normal Cold One (stuipidity shouldn't really be a major problem with cold blooded) with a Halberd would be almost as good in combat and you could use the points to give him a much needed ward save (he won't get a look out sir roll being mounted all by his self). Infact, I'd probably go with just a Scar-Vet on a normal cold one with the Armour of Destiny and a Great Weapon (or a halberd if you don't want to strike last). That'd save you around 120 points. That's a salamander and 4 more saurus warriors right there. I'd also drop the skink chief on Terradon. I run the same build myself (albeit with the Bane Head as well) but have had limited success with it. 3 shots won't do much against most units and have only really found him useful in larger (3k+) games where you're likely to have a lone character to snipe. I'd personally drop him and spend the points on more saurus/salamanders. The chameleons should have war machines covered (and the staff doesn't make for good warmachine hunting as it still needs 6's to wound against T7). My tweaks to the list would be something like this; Old blood on Cold One with Halberd, Light Armour, Charmed Shield and talisman of Protection 1+ save, 4+ ward save and ignores the first cannon ball that comes his way. Lvl 2 Skink Priest with Dispel Scroll (much more useful than an extra spell imo, esp from Heavens) and Ironcurse Icon (6+ ward for unit against war machines) 24 Saurus Warriors with Standard and Musician (no Champion) 10 Skink Skirmishers 5 Chameleon Skinks 5 Chameleon Skinks Salamander Hunting pack + Additional Handler Salamander Hunting pack + Additional Handler (Salamanders = awesome)
I don't have any salamanders I have 8 cold one cavalry, temple guard, lots of skinks, one krox, more saurus's in my box. I was tempted to buy a stegadon.
Just bought a stegadon so all new list: Hero: Skink priest, level 2, cube of darkness Lord: Saurus Old blood on Horned one w/ enchanted shield, light armour Core: 20 saurus with standard 10 skink smirmishers Special: 5x chameleon 5x chameleon 1 stegadon with long bow Thoughts? I have enough chameleons to go war machine hunting. If they don't have one then I can turtle back and unleash my stegadon, while harassing with chameleons and skinks. My priest should hold his own magicwise.
hmm, well considering you can't have better than a 1+ armour save this edition I'd drop the enchanted shield for the charmed shield. The only other thing I would consider would be to drop the Old Blood completely and spend that 200 points on more bodies. Either more skink skirmishers or saurus warriors. Maybe even bump the Chamos up to 6-8 models for each unit.
I could do a chief on a terradon and then add 10 more skink smirkishers? Would would you give the Terradon chief with 130 points?
