I had the same idea and did a single test model... I might post pictures later if you like... this conversion seems tempting but the saurus head is too small for the wild orc body.... doesn't work for me but maybe you'll find a way to get it right...

not too shabby, though as mentioned the head looks a bit small maybe, especially if you, like me, hate the crest and cut it off :D

do you add scales on the back or do you keep it as it is? a photo of the back (including the tail) would be awesome :)

GW doesn't have any pictures of the back of the model, so I wouldn't be able to photoshop the back. Not sure if I'll be adding scales I kinda like the smooth look that he has here.

I kinda prefer the smaller head, gives him a more muscle bound proportion. Also not sure if I got the head size right, it may actually be bigger when I have the two pieces together in real life.

oh, lol, you photoshopped it :D (i should read more carefully instead of looking at the pretty pictures)

well well, better go buy a model to test with then ;)

Just came home from work.... so here are the pitures of the saurus ork conversion.

You 'll have to trim the neck a bit and add a spacer to be able to sculpt a smooth transition otherwise the orc neck area is not suited for the saurus head.

The backside does have some detail on the orc bodies, some have blades or loin cloth, etc. To put a tail onto the orc some rough cutting is essentinal as well as resculpting the area...

I didnt finish the sculpt.. I didnt like it at all although I was thrilled when this idea popped into my mind.. I envisioned some kind of primitive saurus warriors... maybe located at the dragon isles..

So I got ten converted so far, well mostly, I still need to green stuff some holes and add on tails but they are mostly modded.

    The 10

This is how I think I am going to paint them maybe a bit lighter green, but my army is mostly green and I like the colors

Well done, I have to admit they look nice and the shorter neck does the trick... What kind of tails are you going to use?? Are you planing to sculpt some?

Craken, by the way, it's rather weird to find my saurus/ orc warrior design pic at a different forum (the ogre stronghold) with an attached note like: PS this is a test sculpt someone else did for me... the one I did was my personal try, I did nothing for you, I havent done any commission work for you... It's not the kind of behaviour I expect... Just had to get that of my mind....

Oh I didn't think you'd mind but I can remove it, if it upsets you. If that is the case I do apologize.

For the tails I was thinking of taking a mold of a skink tail and seeing if that fits, if it doesn't I'll bulk it up and make another mold of that. That's my thought process anyhow.

I have to admit that I was skeptical at first when I saw your initial mock-up, but the actual models look pretty good! I think a Skink tail will be too small though - maybe just sculpt them right onto the models with green stuff?

These guys look really cool, but yeah, I also think skink tails would be too small. To me it looks like these guys would sport some pretty massive tails. And might I suggest some sort of red for the color-scheme? Even if that would break from the rest of your army I honestly think that'd be pretty cool, since their general shape already sets them apart quite a bit. Puts some more emphasis on their role as "those other brutal Saurus" imo.

Honestly I don't know, because I have neither of the actually gw models. My Krox are reaper models. But I can measure them sometime in the near future at let you know how many mm they are.

To me, they look about the same height as saurus warriors. Maybe a fraction taller. Orcs are a little taller, but they are usually hunched over a bit.
