8th Ed. 1500 pts tourneylist, restricted to batalion box + bit extra

    Hi, Sunday I'm playing my first tournament and submitted this list.
    I only bought a battalion box and slann, and recently got a stegadon. So those are the models I'm limited to.
    (ow and some extra skinks of course)

    I played with the stegadon twice and really loved it. I found this stegadon of doom build http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/stegadon-of-doom-build.6693/
    And just have to try it, even though an ancient stegadon wont fit in 1500 pts.

    This is what i came up with:

    Kai Qu Chupayotl (lost defenders of Chupayotl)

    Lords
    General:
    Slann Mage-Priest: Qua Chaq Chaq (Blood of the Dark Depths)
    Discipline of the Ancients:
    focus of Mystery
    the Focused Rumination
    Magic items:

    Precisely 1500 points :)

    And this is how I plan on playing it:
    1 Protect the 3 units drawing fire: Stegadon, Slann/TG, Cold one Riders. With:
    a Pha’s (buffed so take 3dice (from pool) for 97% casting chance) all units in 12” -1 to hit
    b Screen with Saurus warriors.

    2 Get to war machines with:
    a Skinks
    b Cold one Cavalry: Charge ~ 19” with huanchi’s blessed totem. ~15.5” without.

    3 Shoot highest armored enemies with:
    a Shem’s (buffed = 15+ = 4dice (from pool)) D6 S6 hits (-3 armor save)
    b Stegadon Giant Bow, ignores armor save

    4 Get this charge of: Stegadon of Doom:
    Speed of Light + Birona op Skink Chief, when charging:
    2D6 +1, S5 impact hits, from stegadon (1d6 from war spear)
    5, S5, re-roll to hit, from stegadon
    4, S6, re-roll to hit, from chief (+2 strength from war spear which counts as lance)
    8, S3, re-roll to hit, from crew
    D6, S5, thunderstomp, from stegadon
    ~28 hits

    I think its solid but any thoughts? how might I improve or expand if i get money for new models

    I'll let you know how it did in the tournament as well.

    Well, I know how you feel about only having so many models so you can only do so much ;) I'm on the same boat with a similar sized army as you. I would suggest first getting some more temple guard as your Slann would do much better in a unit of 20 or so ;) Then get some Salamanders and Chameleon Skinks (or convert some of your regular Skinks into them) and get some more Saurus Warriors. That would get you to a basic 2000-2300 point army (along with another hero or two) list! You can also try taking what you have and making a larger list for where you would like to be and that way you can get an idea of what you will be needing ;)

    Thanks for the tips!

    I did alright last sunday, won 2 out of 3. The loss was against a dwarven gunline.
    So I'm totally going for the chameleons, like you suggested. To take out some warmachines quicker :jimlad:

    I'm dropping one unit of skinks for that.

    The 10 TG seems to be enough in 1500 pts. especially since the enemy has 3 big targets to focus on.
    The CoC were the winner for me as most went for the stegadon first. 5 CoC work great in 1500 pts.

    I'm also thinking on dropping the spears on my saurus, if i then also drop the magic banner for the CoC which i didn't actually use, i could maybe increase the saurus to 25.


    I also could drop the chief (since the chief and steg got killed first all the time)
    and then i can even get a salamander in 1500 pts.
    I could then take a normal or even an ancient steg instead.
    The ancient steg would even survive a bit better.

    Oke, just wrote that all down and....

    This would be a pretty nasty list then for 1500 pts, everything Lizardmen have to offer is in there:

    Or is this spreading it to thin then for 1500 pts?

    If i then fill it out with some more saurus a nice scar vet and the extra Temple Guard like you said I will indeed be going towards a nice 2000-2500 points.

    I will start posting some painting pics as well.
