Hi folks, I'm painting my COC blue. I've base coated them in Mordian, but I'm not quite sure what to do next. I think a blue wash would be too blue, and I want something more toned down. My shields will be the same, to unify the force. My troops are all green. Well, will be once I finish them. I was going to put some pics up, but they all look grey on the screen So, instead I present the process: Black undercoat. Dark Angels green. Dry brush Catachan green. Only at this point with the troops. Dry brush Camo green. Dry brush Rotting Flesh. Rotting flesh is then used to paint the 'soft skin' of the bellies.
you could try your mordian blue(i had to look up what shade it was) base coat then something like enchanted/ultramarines blue dry brush on top of that(ultra for more of a softer look) then a blue wash, but it really depends on how blue you want the cold ones to look. for example that's just enchanted blue with a GW blue wash(skin is hawk turquoise with the same wash) the slann in that pick is a lot more complex, its a mix of enchanted blue and lich purple blended up to enchanted blue
Thanks Cravenus. I'll give the ultramarines dry brush a go, as I have that shade to hand! The eyes on your green slann are excellent.
if you want a more "natural" blue, i recommend blending in shadow grey as highlights. it is a very bluish grey. bollow that up with a blending in with bleached bone (maybe 1:1:1 of blue:grey:bone) and finish it with a was of badab black and you should have a very nice "natural" blue. if you want a more "fantasy" type of blue, i agree that ultramarines or enchanted blue makes a good basis for highlights, and azurmen blue (or a bix with azurmen and badab black) will be a good wash) best of luck, and please post pics
