Has anyone done this? Would anyone do this? i think its interesting to have a lvl 2 with armor and great weapon and whatnot.
Nah, too many points spent on a combat character that essentially has no combat items. He now becomes ok at combat and ok at magic, but you really want a character to excel at one and forget the other. The only possible place I can see it being used is on a goblin lord since they are so cheap anyway; it would be a funny and fluffy addition to the army though still not all that effective.
Haven't tried it yet, but I plan on giving it a go in an all Saurus list someday. something like... Total Cost: around 300 Saurus Oldblood, + Cold One + Halberd + Light Armour + Wizarding Hat What you get is a level 2 wizard with a random lore, (probably not Heavens) Strenght 6, initiave 4, 1+ armor save!, 5 attacks. and a Cold One (why not the hat already makes him stupid).
Whats interesting for them is that the FAQ clarified you randomise the spells, you get to pick the Lore though. So for O&G, it opens up to them the battle magic Lores at least partially. No ward save means he's not a competitive choice for a combat hero. Also, you are paying way too many points for him to be so lackluster. High armour saves are fantastic against rank and file, but everyone and their dog loads up on high Strength heroes or Death/Metal magic for sniping out characters like that. We simply have zero need for another Wizard. Slann already give us access to the best Lores in the game, at Level 4 Loremaster no less (Plaque of Tepok being a cheaper psuedo-Loremaster).
Nope. Your standard template for 90% of armies is; Lords: General (fighty, magic weapon, ward save, usually high armour, commonly mounted) Level 4 (maybe a ward save, attaches to General's unit to buff it) Heroes: BSB, usually no magic weapon as all points are in ward save and high armour, pretty fighty though Couple of Level 2's, Metal and Death are popular as you can stack their signature spell and if you roll the nukes or sniper spells, they get around having to take that Lore on the Level 4 Core: Big blocks to guard flanks of Deathstar Special: Deathstar that General and BSB attach to, sometimes Level 4 goes here as well (if Life for example) Cavalry Cannon spam (in armies that have it) Rare: Warmachines and other fire support units (some monsters can be good here, for example Hydras)
Well, it's pretty close to impossible to avoid that template with Warhammer armies, so I'd say it's a worldwide trend; General: 12" Leadership aura is amazing Level 4: Magic is better than ever, and you have to dispel efficiently BSB: Re-rolls to all Leadership is amazing Level 2's: Buffs are very handy to hand out to large blocks, and you'll want more arcane items than just one scroll on your Level 4 Deathstar: If you don't have one, you don't have a counter to the enemy one if magic fails Warmachines: Armies that have them load up, because there is no more efficient way short of magic when it comes to mass carnage. They also ignore the retarded regular rules for shooting (mostly, or they spam enough shots to get around the need for 6's to hit), so their dakka is actually effective.
How about on a Carnosaur? Or would you field that guy in a block of Saurus/CoC? I'd still be nervous about getting him into combat with a lot of armies
Well, enough of the whole 'tournament blah blah blah' stuff.. Anyone with 'character' has fun with their army and the Wizard's Hat has always been a pretty fun looking thing to try out It's almost like having a fighty chaos sorcerer And no one has a deathstar out there.. They are all lies cuz I have the real one...
