    1. what is the best kit for a stegadon?
    2. Is it true that two stegadons are better than one?
    3. If so, what would be the kit-out for the second stegadon?
    4. In a 2 stegadon list, would it be wise to take an EotG and an Ancient, an Ancient and a regular, or an Engine of the Gods and a Regular Stegadon?

In response to your questions, much of your steggie selection will depend on your overall army composition. However, here are my views based on your Qs:
    1. Ancient steggie is definitely worth the extra points for the +1 AS and +1 S. The giant blow pipes are nearly always superior to the lone shot bolt thrower for sheer volume of fire if nothing else.
    2. With the new, laser-guided artillery and TLOS, keeping a steggie out of the line of fire is next to impossible. Cannons will rapidly drop a single steggie and even if steggie survives, odds are the crew will not since they will all take a S10 hit causing d6 wounds. If you want one to survive and make it into combat, two seems almost essential although the lore of life or light can help compensate.
    3. Go either double ancient or ancient + EotG. The EotG can be very useful against some armies (vamps, TK, daemons, heavily armoured knights, etc.) but free points for any gunline. Having some war machine hunting chameleons helps as you may be able to limit the threat.
    4. See #3.

I say 3 is better than 2. I run a 3 steggie list at 2000 points and have great fun. Take 1 of each kind, point them at something and impact and thunderstomp them to death.

If however your mad and only want 1/2 stegs then leave the baby at home, the others are vastly superior.

I vote one EOTG and one Ancient.
Two ancients probably is best but will eat up all your rare points and might not leave room for the amazing sallies.

I'm in the rough boat of only owning one steg and when i've fielded it hasn't worked out well.

Maybe a Steg and a carnosaur would work? or two stegs and a carnosaur

I play 2K and run a single EOTG, It has never failed me yet but that may be because of the lack of cannons in my opponents armies, tend to play, Skaven, VC, High Elves and Brets.

Works really well holding a flank or supporting the Surus and Temple Guard blocks and Lore of Life keeps him in the game.

I also like the better protection offered for the Skink Priest. The alternative is running lone or with skirmishers and he will get minced.

I recently traded out my ancient steg for 6 CoC with FC and the flaming banner in my 2500 Light list... I do not miss the steg at all.
