Hi all, I'm about to start a Lizardmen army, I'm returning to the game and haven't played since 6th edition or maybe even 5th, so I'm a semi beginner. I have the rule book and I've been racking my brains on what to start and decided on Lizardmen as it seemed to be a solid army and covered the basics I what I want in an army in terms of looks and what I know of the playstyle. My army book is yet to be delivered, but I should have it soon. I was wondering whether you could give me some pointers on what I should get first and aim for. I'm guessing I should probably aim for 1.5k or 2k points at first? When I played before I wasn't very good with cavalry so I'll probably avoid using them until I get reacquainted with the game.
Welcome to the forum! You will find that our cavalry are overcosted and the number that it would take to accoplish a positive result is about 10+. They are just not worth it. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Saurus for sure. Salamanders are solid choices, and no army is complete without skinks. if your are playing anywhere close to 1500+ or over, the Slann is one of the stronger casters in the game.
Yup, you can even make chameleon skinks out of regular skinks (much much cheaper than buying individual chameleon skinks). If your gaming group isn't big on what you see is what you get, you can use regular skinks for chamo skinks if you designate them for certain games and use regular Saurus for Temple Guard. Once you have the basic amount of Saurus, Skinks, Salamanders, and a Slann whatever else you take is a matter of personal taste. I'd try out some proxies with your basic models to determine whether you like Stegadons, Terradons, Kroxigor, Cold One Cavalry or whatever before investing in it. Alternatively you could get an army box or two. That will give you Saurus, Temple Guard, Skinks, Cold One Cavalry and Jungle Swarms (Cold One Cavalry come with bits very easy to convert to swarms, not swarms are a great unit but they are essentially free).
