Hey guys. I'm just starting Lizardmen with a battalion and extra box of TG. I'm planning on painting up the Saurus units (so Warriors, Temple Guard and Cold One Riders) in a rather earthy scheme, with Army Painter's Desert Yellow for the skin, and GW's Bestial Brown/Mournfang Brown for the scales. However, I'm at a loss as to what colours would work with the Skinks and Cold One's themselves. I'd like the Skinks to stand out from the dull Saurus, without looking too garish and unsuitable. Anyone got any recommendations for colours that, whilst making them stand out from the earthy Saurus, wouldn't look stupid? Same goes for the Cold One mounts? I was originally thinking of doing them brown, with a darker brown colour for the scales, but this might make the whole model look a bit weird, as it might end up where the rider isn't overly distinguishable from the mount unless close up. Again, any recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks guys!
opposing colors compliment each other in painting. a mix with brown will bring things to a more earthy color.
Perhaps Dark Blue skinks with Light Tan scales ? hmmm.... since your Saurus are Brown and lighter Brown you could go with a more orange and black cold ones?
Thanks for the replies guys! I must say your suggestions are very useful, and the colour wheel will definitely come in useful with this army. I have to admit, the idea of dark blue Skinks with bone coloured scales looks quite good in my mind, and a pale orange for the Cold Ones may work well. I'm thinking of painting them similar to the Velociraptors from The Lost World, just a slightly paler orange. I think I'll start a project log at some point . Need to order some new paints now though! Thanks again guys!
