Being one of the sad reptiles who havnt gotten the book yet (got home from vacation on a sunday....store not OPAAHN!) it has come to my attention through crawling forums that a) Saurus now has "Predatory Fighter" = extra Attack on 6'es and b) Jungle Swarm adds poison to all ally units that are in the same combat. = auto-wound on 6'es ...so... Seems to me 6's are an even more important number to Lizzies than it have ever been. Poison are no longer reserved to the skinks and Saurus Heroes (note: ..rest in peace Venom of the Firefly frog..) I am speculating: which possible combinations available to us can max out this fine addition? can you actually build around it? Lets say we have: - 24 saurus block (6 wide) as it seems it is the most preferable formation on the forums. - A Jungle Swarm VS - 24 Block of training-dummy infantry (6 wide) ... given the Swarm survives long enough to provide their poison...what can be added to max out the potential of 6'es? magic and unit wise? I think I read that the troglodon can up this to 5+ for a round of combat, thats a no brainer, though it dosnt help out the posion. To my count our arsenal only holds these options: - Troglodon roar (name please?) - Harmonic Convergence (Heavens) - Bironas Timewarp (light) - Initiative boosters for re-roles (various, but probably light) - Pop in a Scar-vet or two with Attack builds (duh) 1 = Is there anything I am missing? 2 = Given the new book: how would an optimal list focusing on these mechanics look like to you?
I notice that the predatory fighter rule doesn't state that the "6" has to be natural. So anything that boosts your bonus to hit will help. Enchanted blades of Albion jumps to mind.
I would expect them to FAq that, but until then Saurus characters with the sword of striking are going to be filthy
Played a small test game last night, 750, and used this combination to deadly effect. Wiped out HE spearmen with ease and even manged to scare away his phoenix guard. Saurus that auto-wound on 6's and then get extra attacks? YES PLEASE and THANK YOU! Plus, I ran a beasts priest so...Wyssan's...also a big YES!
does it say "on 6+" or "for each 6 when rolling to hit" ? what you suggest will only work on the first.....please let it be 6+
That is what it says. Usually if I am not mistaken, if a rule will only apply if an actual six is rolled, they will say something line an unmdified die roll of 6, or a natural 6. Since this doesn't say that, would not you think that a bonus to hit would help. When a roll a five, with plus one to hit, I say that I rolled a six to hit.
Hah, good catch. If that's true, the enchanted blades spell plus the trog roar would trigger an extra attack on any roll of 4+. Somehow I think their intent was an unmodified roll, but they didn't specify. Scarvet with +1 to hit sword all day long.
When you use poisoned attacks in CC do you think you get poison on a 5+ with +1 to hit? Lol, +1 to hit doesn't help with predator fighter. If someone tried to play that in a game with me, I'd say "No" and then never play with them again for that WAAC way of thinking. Stretching rules like that makes people not want to play super cool miniature wargames with you.
Using that logic..... Rolling a natural 6, and then adding +1 for blade of striking gives you a to hit roll of 7, so no PF, correct?
Used this combo today against tomb guards and it was indeed useful. Even the stegadon that was in the fight could join in on the fun. The effect didn't last too long though as the swarms died quickly due to the unstable rule. But I will more than likely use 2 swarms for flank charge together with the saurus to give this synergy in the future.
I think we can conclude: Predatory Fighter does not benefit from "+1 to hit" effects since it wont be "the roll of a 6" anymore...natural or not. Its the side of the dice that activates the ability, not its amount ....which is too bad. anyway: PF + Poison does still seem like a nice thing..
Seems like it but, swarms are just bleeding combat res and points that could be better spent else where. Unless you build bastilidons around your swarms, I don't see it working. Sounds like the bat swarms from VC, great in theory, difficult to execute properly in practice.
but they dont state 6+ so if you have the sword that gives +1 tohit you get predator on 5 but you dont get it on 6 because 6 becomes 7...
if you use swarms corectly they will be gold if you charge with them in middle front or middle of flank you will have a bad time. you need first to charge with saurus and then swarms that they would touch maximum 1 model.
