Soo, after being convinced to play lizards again from you guys on the forum. I started with painting them skinks, what do you guys thinks of my first creations? I started with painting some old models i got from a friend to get some feeling for the colors and try some washes that is a new thing for me. I was and am still abit unsure how i want to paint them, but i basically spray them black, paint them enchanted blue. Then going Lothern blue and end with a dry-brush highlight mix of lothern blue, bleached bone and white. I also use some blue wash on them. The scales i go enchanted blue, highlight with a mix of white, bleached bone and lothern blue, making it brighter then that on the skin, dry brushing it and then drowning the scale in purple wash. I kinda like it. The top of the head i go dark angels green, and dry brush some scorpion green to get some depth in it even tho i make it very little so it is hard to see. Then make some patterns with scorpion green. I really like the concept but i feel i need to be better at painting patterns. I initially wanted some orange theme in there as it worked pretty good with the old models. Soo, whatya think? Any good pro tips to make next squad better? Also, i could use some tips on making the ground jungle-like. Peace.
PS. If anyone here have any experience with judging criteria for painting, i am all ears. But my hope is to at least not be laughed at if i enter a tournament. DS.
Not bad, I think you are off to a good start. Light blue paint seems like it might have been a little thick. you might be able to fix it with some thined blue wash.
Maybe save the orange for their shields or give the beastmaster skinks orange stripes instead of the green? You've got plenty of models to spread your color pallet around with a LM force! They're looking good so far no matter what you end up doing with them!
I really like the idea to give the beastmaster skinks orange stripes! Thank you! Maybe i make different squads different stripes as well, being different spawns =P Or maybe that will be to messy, i do not know yet. Hmm, i can try using some wash to thin out the color, thank you. At least the enchanted blue as i used before light blue is a old color and thick. The old models i used a mix of different colors to created the light blue lock. If it is the new models that lock thick, maybe it is because of enchanted blue or me dry brushing them.. Anyhow, thanks for the kind comments!
So, i finally started working on my bases for them skinks. I got a lot of inspiration and tips from here on the forum and here is the result: First picture: Close up 1 : Close up 2: Base in progress: I really wanted the jungel-ruin look and are kinda happy with the result.
Thank you Ninu, i appreciate it! =D I bought them from a store that sells plastic plants for fish aquarium. But i had to modify them and paint them. For example the bush with long narrow leaves was just round plastic stuff that did not fit in to well. So i flattened it out with a tong and it also made it and that made it look nice, also carved some with a knife to make them narrower at the top.
Soo, i was trying different concepts for my skink handlers. Non of them are done yet, and either one i go for would need more work. I can not decide what concept i like the better or if i should paint any other way, what do you guys think? Thanks for input!
