I'm just getting (back) into Lizardmen after a long hiatus. In the time that I have been out of the game, a new army book has come out, and a new friend has started the game - in fact, the appearance of a new opponent who is more or less on my level (rather than way above me) has been instrumental in my decision to pick Fantasy back up again. Anyway, here's my list for Thursday - what do you think? By the way, I'm operating with a slightly limited collection, but I have some flexibility. Additionally, if you strongly recommend something I don't own, that will inform my future decisions. Lords • Slann Mage-Priest (High Magic) w/Higher State of Consciousness Heroes • Skink Priest (Lore of Beasts) Core • 20 Saurus Warriors w/Spears, Full Command • 15 Skinks w/Javelines, Full Command • 10 Skink Skirmishers w/Blowpipes Special • 10 Cold One Riders (Full Command) • Stegadon w/Unstoppable Stampede Rare • Salamander Hunting Pack, +1 Handler
i would probably split the CoC in 2 - and have a mus in both (hand weapons only), for 2 grinding units of 5. also the stegadon should be moved to Rare and played like an ancient, still with horns, scrape of the 5 skinks in your 15 skink regiment to pay for it. i believe by then you should have 10 spare points from splitting your CoC - dunno what to do with them, but you can get a banner for one of the CoC for blood an glory. Just my 5 cents. Those changes will give you more mobility, an extra unit, and a better Stegadon. Your list is solid enough though!
While Wyssans will help your cold ones, with a slann and no extra dice the priest seems sub par at 1500. Scarvets on cold ones are boss. With a CoC unit behind them they are down right freaking amazing. And unless your super tight for points an ancient steg is worth alot more in any army, especially your list as you have little to nothing to help with +1AS. Keeping with the theme and giving you options I'd aim for: Slann, High magic, Higher state Scarvet Coldie BSB(don't want to fail stupidity), GW, armour of destiny (glittering scales, dawnstone is another option) 25x Saurus FC, I pref swords and shields but I tend to use them to grind and hold my opponent up unit of skirmishers 8x CoC FC Ancient Steg Sallie with extra snack But as Vampteddy said your list should run fine as an all comers. But the St7 scarvet and Str6 Steg will let you deal with a few things you would otherwise have massive troubles with. You can also easily refine your list is you want to beat on a specific race. And don't forget the scarvet doesn't need to fight with the CoC, he can handle almost anything.
