Hello, what salamander is trying to point out but really has no clue how to is that you are really lacking any magic defense in your list. When you play smaller games as 1000 points or 1250 magic heavy lists might not be very very common, unless you play against persons who really really want devastating wins, like fielding treemans and stegadons or dragon mages or 3 mages at this point level. But often most people might atleast bring one or even two mages to battle, in this case you atleast need to get a scroll caddy (a single level 1 mage with two scrolls). I am not sure if you have the right amount in the troops either, the saurus unit is to big in my oppionion, champion in the unit isnt needed either so. Lets say you drop the saurus unit down to 16 and get rid of the champion, then you can put your scar vet in the same unit and get 3 ranks with 6 front, this will give you lots of attacks and a nice hitting unit. Remove the temple guards if possible and use them as saurus infantry with spears insteed (until you have gotten more saurus warriors) a unit of 10 with spears is far more effective imho. Try fitting 2 units of skinks into the list to would be nice, and a scroll caddy or even a level 2 skink priest. Dunno if i were to any help. A basic 1000p force might look something like that (I only play 2250 nowdays so some people might be better of telling you what nasty combos to use). Scar-vet: Chotec, light armour, enchanted shield, cold one 145 skink priest: diadem of power, scroll 115 16 x saurus warriors: spears, std, muso 210 10 x saurus warriors: spears 120 10 x skink skirmishers 70 10 x skink skirmishers 70 5 x cold ones: 175 3 x terradons 90
teknistmajjan has hit the nail on the head. Another thing which you may be unaware of is games workshop doesn't sell units in the quantity they should be fielded. You would never field 8 cold ones in a unit - cavalry should be kept to units of 5. Bear this in mind.
This is true. Playing against magic heavy lists at <1000pts is no fun at all and sometimes even a 'scroll caddy' isn't enough to preserve your troops long enough to get into CC with the enemy, especially with avoidance heavy armies. However, these lists are few and far between being as they fall into the imbalanced 'rock-paper-scissors' style of army. If you don't want to include magic users for offensive purposes, I'd highly recommend picking up at least a skink priest with some scrolls. That will prevent an opponent from getting a particularly good spell off at a key moment. As far as the temple guard vs. the spear sarus is concerned, lets look at the differences. A unit of similarly geared spear sarus will cost you 4pts/model less than your TG unit which allows you to allocate points elsewhere. You will loose 1Str while switching from Halbreds to spears, but still fielding 2x Str4 atk/model is fearsome. You gain +1 to your armor save as spear sarus are already coming equipped with a sheild giving you added survivability. With the only downside being that you loose 1pt of strength, I'd say that you're coming out way ahead. Saving those 40 points allows you to pick up 3+ more spear sarus or bolster another area that you'd like. My personal preference is to minimize the amount of magical items that I give characters at low points values as well, due to the fact that they seem overpriced for what you get, especially in small games where every point counts. You may consider dropping a few knick-knacks off your general in favor of adding an extra model to a specific unit. Perhaps some of the more experienced players here can offer suggestions on this as well. After all, 45 points of items in a 1000pt list is 4.5% of your comp, so a relatively small amount. Hope this helps.
