Hello all, Not playing warhammer fantasy but i have some lizardmen at home. Wanting to play a friendly game of fantasy to see if i like it or just stay with kings of war. I have the following in my collection: 1 skink priest 64 saurus warriors(16 armed with hand weapons) 24 skinks 1 Kroxigor 8 Cold One Cavalry 20 Temple Guard 1 Bastilodon with cristal on his back(what was it, solar engine?) What would you recomment for a friendly game where i actially have a chance to get a draw. Also wanting to buy the following models, simply because they look cool: Terradon Riders Troglodon Triceratops(or whats its name) Cheers Arjan
well, saurus are a good bet, although perhaps a bit boring. A big block 30ish will be a force to be reckoned with, especially at 1000 pts. It is a good idea to bring a bit of magic, since otherwise all those dice are wasted a sort of jack-of-all trades 1k list with what you've got could look like: (comes to exactly 1000 points) + Lords (171pts) + Sarus Oldblood [Glittering Scales, Shield] + Heroes (250pts) + Sarus Scar-Veteran [Light Armour, Shield], Battle standard [Banner of Eternal Flame] Skink Priest [Dispel Scroll, To a Level 2 Wizard] + Core (429pts) + Saurus Warriors [Champion, Musician, 21x Saurus Warrior, Standard Bearer] Skink Skirmishers [12x Skink Skirmisher] Skink Skirmishers [12x Skink Skirmisher] + Special (150pts) + Bastilidon I can't quite decide if the two groups of skirmishers would be able to make any meaningful impact on anything, but at least you can use them to march block and be a general nuisance. A solar-engine bastiladon is a pretty decent unit at these points. Oldblood and BSB go with the saurus for a pretty significant deathstar, while the priest goes with one of the skirmisher units. If you don't wanna play "warhammer chess" with the skirmishers, I suggest bundling the two units into one, so they have a chance of hurting something. You didn't tell us what you would be facing - this list could do OK against an army with lots of melee troops, very well against loads of bowmen, and quite poorly against cannons, I think.
The enemy will be vampire counts, he keeps it friendly as well to get to grips with the basics of the game and not rely to much on heroes for the first game. But 3 heroes at a 1000 point game is normal?
it's not required, no problem is that warhammer does not work optimally a much less than 2000 pts (which is definitely a problem for the system), so at these intermediate points you can end up with only bad choices. you have to bring a general, and having a spellcaster is usually quite nice, since otherwise that's an entire phase of the game that you're missing out on. psychology and break tests are a pretty big part of the game (or, it will be for you, while your vc opponent will be completely ignoring it), which makes the BSB very handy. If I had to remove one character, it would likely be the BSB, but I suggest you go look at http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/escalation-campaign-lizards-vs-tomb-kings.16167/, to see my two battle reports against tomb kings. In the first I don't have a BSB, in the second I don't have a spellcaster. in the third game, on thursday, I will most likely have the full set.
