Hello everyone, Here's my 1k list and wanted to get your opinion: Hero Scar Vet (general) Charm of the Jaguar Warrior Light armour Shield Great Weapon Core 18 Saurus Warriors Spears Standard Bearer, Musician 2x 10 Skink Skirmishers Special 11 Temple Guards Standard Bearer, Musician 1 Stegadon Rare 1 Salamander Hunting Pack TOTAL: 995 Questions: (1) Does this list look competitive? (2) Should I substitute 10 skinks for another salamander? Thanks in advance for your help!
For starters without any other magic it is going to be highly unlikely that you're going to be able to get the charm off, so you would be better off dropping that and picking up something else. Maybe the enchanted shield, or the glyph necklace. Aside from that you've got two units of skirmishers, which is always a good thing, two units of grinders (saurus and TG) and a sallie which is a quite useful creature. However I find it hard to believe that with only two slow units for CC your going to get very far, you need something faster that can smash into the unit that your grinders are mashing, without that you will have two units out of the game for two or three turns unless someone throws cheap garbage at them. I think that you should drop the salamanders and even the TG to pick up some krox or Cold One Cavs.
I'm not too fond of Stupidity for the Cold Ones... how about Terradon riders? Would they do the trick for some added speed?
Terradons are great for march blocking, war machine hunting, mage hunting, and the drop rocks ability is great too. They are not, however, anywhere near as effective at smashing things than the Cold One Cavalry. True the Cold Ones stupidity is a nuisance, but it does not happen to frequently for me to think that it is an important factor to consider when including it in an army. You do have a stegadon which can act as a hammer, a quite effective one but just not enough for my liking. Maybe the steg would be enough with the terradons helping out in those other areas where they shine. I really suggest trying your list out two or three times. After a couple games you will notice where you are weak and where you really perform well. When you do that you will come up with a few ideas on how you can; A) change the list to help in those key areas that you are underperforming, and B) figure out how and when to use the units you have.
Stupidity does suck. Fortunately it is hardly ever an issue. Cold-Blooded leadership 8 is not at all hard to get under.
You may wanna try and sneak in that 5 points somewhere. Like novo said, perhaps an enchanted shield or a glyph. And I say keep the salamander + skink combo. If you're worried about march blocking skinks are useful there. Mostly I agree with everyone else though: play a few games!
Personally I am not a fan of TG without a slann for their points. As I find a Saurus Warrior unit with spears much more effective, and cheaper. So I would drop the TG unit and make 2 blocks of 15 Saurus warriors with spears (reduce your 18 to 15, unless you don't have anywhere else to put points). That may leave you with some extra points to play with. Also I would definitely keep the salamander until you've played a few games, then decide. And if you don't already use that 5 points for an extra handler on the salamander.
