This is just a list drawn up based around the very beginning of my army and the models I have/plan to have in the not to distant future. Just interested to hear people's thoughts on the list and see if there are any massive holes that I've missed. This is the first list I made since I moved back into play WFB so I'm not sure how it will stand, not really sure what the list is "for" specifically, it's just my thoughts on what to aim for. Heros: Scar Vet. LA, BB, Enchanted Shield, Tailisman of Prot. Skink Priest. Lvl 1, Rod of Storms, Tailisman of Prot. Core: 30xSW- FC 10xSkink Skirmishers x3 Special: 5xChameleon Skinks x2 Rare: Salamander: Additional Handler Total: 995 My only concern is high toughness high armour units, like Chaos Knights or just general knights. Kinda hoping I wouldn't see too many of them at such a low points cost. Otherwise I could maybe see problems with armies that have even more shooting than me, WE and DEs come to mind. Also might lose some Saurus to then put the Scar Vet. on a Cold one. Thought, comments all would be great, thanks.
Unfortunately, you can't have two Talismans of Protection, so you'll have to trash one of them. The scar-veteran doesn't seem amazingly geared, i'd go for something like this: Scar Veteran w/ Armour of Fortune, Gold Sigil-Sword and Shield He's 13pts more than your set-up, but he has the same armour save, a better ward save and more killing potential thanks to I10. The priest looks fine, perhaps thrown on the Ironcurse Icon if you have any spare points. The saurus are a bit too excessive for 1k. I wouldn't take a unit of 30, my maximum is 20/25 with HW/S and 24 with spears. For 1k, I think 20 should be fine, perhaps cut one of them away if the scar veteran is going in there. I'd also remove the champion, his only real purpose is to protect characters from challenges, but your scar veteran should be fine holding his own. Use the points saved by cutting the warriors down to buy another salamander + handler. Another suggestion is to cut one of the skirmisher units, and use leftover points after buying a second sallie to purchase a small saurus unit. You could reduce the 19-man one to 14 and bump the smaller one up to 15, shove the scar-veteran with the 14-man one and you're off.
My reason for taking the Burning Blade on the Scar Vet. was to help vs high armour targets which I felt the list might lack, however I think I'll take your advice and try and fit another salamander in there which would help in that department. I like your Scar vet. build aswell, would there be a large advantage if I mounted him on a Cold one aswell? Think I'll try drop the Sauras count aswell, as you suggested, guess I can put the points into the salamander. The Champion is in there incase I need to move the priest into the unit if he in endangered +it was just some points I had left, may drop him if I went for your Scar Vet. build, that would give me the points I needed to make it work. I like the idea of the second unit of Sauras aswell, at the moment I don't have the models but I may look to change that at the end of the month Thanks alot for the comments. P.S revised list inc.
Ah, you might need to make it clearer; BB can also refer to the Biting Blade, BBoC is preferable when talking about the burning blade You can stick with the burning blade if you want; a total of -4 to armour is always nice, but thanks to the cheap methods of getting a 2+ ward save against flaming attacks, any character with a Dragonhelm or Bane Gem will ruin your day. In my opinion, the disadvantages outweight the advantages. Whilst he'll be able to close on enemies faster, he'll be largely unsupported whilst doing so (buying a unit of Cold-One Cavalry would help a bit, but they're ridiculously expensive for what they do). If you keep him in a saurus unit whilst mounted, he'll be unable to claim Look Out, Sir! and outside a unit, he'll be extremely vulnerable.
Revised List attempt 1: Heroes: Scar Vet. LA, BBoC, Enchanted Shield, Tailisman of protection Skink Priest, Lvl1, Rod of Storms, Ironcurse Icon Core: 24x Saurus Warriors, Standard+Muse 14x Skink Skirmishers 13x Skink Skirmishers Special: 5x Chameleon Skinks 3x Terradon Riders Rare: Salamander, Extra Handlers. x2 Total Points: 996 I dropped the Saurus Size as you suggested and I'll run with the Scar Vet. in the unit, whether or not I will need to have a Champion is yet to be seen, but I would like to think that if someone does challenge him he will have a good chance against them. Dropped 1 unit of skinks mostly to get the extra salamander in there, and dropped one unit of the Chameleons to get the Terradons. I was just short of being able to keep the 3rd unit of skinks. So i mixed the extras into the first 2 units. The Terradons are there because as you said the Scar Vet. on a CO might not be the best idea, so the Terradons will add the bit of speed so I can stop some marches and deal with any war machines (theory hammer ho!) Also took the Ironcurse Icon, I think your idea was great seeing as I can't take the second Tailisman of Prot. and he will be running solo for the start, the Icon should hopefully save him from any cannon balls. I'll try your Scar Vet. build when I next get a chance and see how it goes, I'd just drop a skink or 2 from the units to make up the extra cost. I'll try him next game I have and see how it runs, or now though I'll stick with the tried and tested build I have. Your comment about the Dragon Helms etc. is probably very valid as BBoC seems to be a really common item in most Scar Vet. builds, I guess I'd just have to steer clear of the hero that had the helm and take him down the with skinks...Chotec hear my prayer! Comments? Thanks for your help thus far.
